“I choke up every time”: Agents of SHIELD Star Confirms Return as Marvel Character that Jumpstarted her Career is Highly Unlikely
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, created by Joss Wheadon, Jed Wheadon, and Maurissa Tancharoen is based on Marvel Comics organization SHIELD. The SHIELD agents including Natalia Cordova-Buckley, Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, etc., dealt with unusual cases and enemies throughout seven seasons. The audience witnessed Hydra, Inhumans, Life Model Decoys, Kree, and Chornicoms (alien species), and of course time travel.
The series concluded in 2020 with 136 episodes over seven seasons with the first season garnering the most attention and the ratings. The series’ episodes are notably direct cross-over with MCU movies or television series including Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Agent Carter. One of the cast members recently addressed her potential return to the MCU. Let’s find out.
Is Agents of SHIELD star Natalia Cordova-Buckley returning as Yo-Yo to the MCU?
Actress Natalia Cordova-Buckley portrayed the character of Elena ‘Yo-Yo’ Rodriguez in the series Agents of SHIELD; is a Colombian Inhuman and can move at a super speed for a beat of her heart. The character is initially reluctant to join the SHIELD and goes ahead to be part of the Secret Warriors. In her recent interview ComicBook.com with Josh Wilding, the actress asked if she is willing to return as Yo-Yo to MCU. She said,
“I’m completely satisfied. Yo-Yo is, you know, I choke up every time I talk about Yo-Yo. She is profoundly special to me as a person and as an artist. I got the perfect role at the perfect time with her. She built me up and being part of such a huge franchise like Marvel…my grandfather was a huge comic book fan. In all ways, it was really magical but to be honest, it was the beginning of my career in the United States.”
The actress who will be seen in a new horror flick The Portrait shared,
“It was perfect for that moment but I really want to focus on the kind of stuff that The Portrait is. I want to do a lot of indies. I want to do stuff that does craft work.”
Cordova-Buckley added that she didn’t become an actress to be famous or make money and feels like sometimes, the big franchise movies just lock one up as an actor with specific types of roles.
Natalia Cordova-Buckley is grateful for Agents of SHIELD & Yo-Yo
The actress who played the character of a superhero for five years says that it has been enough for her and someone else can come to take over the character from where she left off.
“I am profoundly grateful. It was perfect for me. It’s like that relationship you finish off beautifully and is everything it could have ever been.”
Clark Gregg appeared in a flashback role in 2019’s Captain Marvel and is the only actor from the series to come back to the MCU following his debut in 2013. Gabriel Luna who played Robbie Reyes’s version of Ghost Rider in the series had expressed his interest in playing an anti-hero sharing that he loves the character.
