“I did say no”: Jimmy Kimmel Refused to Accept Generous Offer From “Despicable Matt Damon” While Writers Strike Hurts His Late Night Show
Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon’s mock feud has been going on for decades. The talk show host and the Academy Award actor have often crossed paths in their years-long career in Hollywood. They have an ever-ongoing feud, which the two seldom fail to mention.
Kimmel along with Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, and John Oliver have started a podcast titled Strike Force Five. The Late-Night Quintet has moved on to podcasting as there is no end in sight for the writers’ strike. On the podcast, Kimmel revealed that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck offered him help to pay his staff, which he declined.
Matt Damon Wanted to Help Jimmy Kimmel
Jimmy Kimmel did not keep his feud with Matt Damon even while ironically praising the actor for offering to help pay the talk show host’s staff. When the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes began earlier this year, news had come out that Kimmel was paying his staff out of his own pocket.

Talking on the podcast, Kimmel mentioned frenemy Matt Damon and his BFF, Ben Affleck chimed in to help which he denied. He said:
“Ben Affleck and the despicable Matt Damon contacted me and offered to pay our staff for two weeks. A week each, they wanted to pay out of their own pockets our staff. I did say no, but I felt that that was not their responsibility.”
Kimmel gushed over his friend and Matt Damon being helpful, and the other hosts jokingly asked if the help was transferrable. It is good to see artists and friends pull through and stick together in the tumultuous state of the entertainment industry.
Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel’s Decades-Long Feud
Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon have a love-hate relationship and their feud has stood the test of time, outstanding countless relationships in the entertainment industry. The pair have taken every opportunity to keep the joke going, making jabs at each other here and there. From interviews to stints on the talk show and even the Oscars, they have advertised their feud enthusiastically.
In reality, Kimmel and Damon are very good friends and keep this facade of enemies for amusement. There have been moments where the pair cannot help the affection they have for one another seep through. Damon is usually better at it, the Oscar is not for nothing, after all.
Kimmel making sure to mention Damon’s generosity is a testament to the respect he has for the Air star. Adding a disrespectful word in front of the actor’s name in no way demeans the act of honor he has done and Kimmel recognizes that.
