American actor Timothee Chalamet is one of those actors who went on to construct a great Hollywood career within a very short period of time. He rose to fame with the critically acclaimed movie Call Me By Your Name in 2017 and went on to script a record for being the youngest actor to win an Academy Award in almost eighty years.

He made headlines after replacing Johnny Depp in the fantasy drama. After the trailer release of Wonka in July, the actor’s fans cannot contain their excitement as the franchise is coming up with a prequel almost after 18 long years. Undoubtedly, Timothee Chalamet is a talented actor, but not many people know that he hardly auditioned for any of his roles in the past seven years.

Timothee Chalamet Did Not Audition For Wonka

The different range of characters played by Timothee Chalamet needs experience and mastery in the art of acting. The Ladybird actor has proved his acting prowess with his critically acclaimed projects. It is almost impossible to believe, that the American-French actor barely auditioned for the roles that made him a larger-than-life star in Hollywood. According to filmmaker Scott Cooper, the actor had last auditioned for his 2017 movie Hostiles. 

Even for the character of Wonka, Timothee Chalamet did not have to go through the rigorous process of auditioning. During an interview with the media outlet Variety, director Paul King spoke about the Dune actor. He mentioned watching his high school viral video performance and went ahead with finalizing Timothee Chalamet for the character of Wonka.

During an interview with the reputed entertainment outlet Rolling Stone, director Paul King spoke about Timothee Chalamet being the only actor in his mind for the character of Wonka. He said-

 “I knew from stanning for Timmy Chalamet that he could sing and dance really well. And I knew that was in his arsenal, but I didn’t know how good he was.”

Wonka is the prequel to Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory which is slated for the year-end release as of now. From the trailer of the movie, it is evident that the upcoming prequel is a light-hearted colorful musical saga.

Wonka is black with his plum-colored overcoat and black top hat almost after decades. The chocolate connoisseur’s character would be played by the Academy Award-winning actor Timothee Chalamet in the Paul King-directed venture Wonka. The project has been in development for a long time.

The plot of the fantasy drama is based on the protagonist landing at a European center of chocolate shops with the objective of making the best chocolate in the world. During an interview with the media outlet People, Paul King was all praises for the actor’s performance. He said-

“I think what’s so remarkable about his performance is not only that he is funny and mischievous and quite mysterious, as well — just like the Willy Wonka that people will know — but also, he brings such heart to the role and he’s a brilliant actor,”

The star-studded cast of Wonka features prominent names from the entertainment industry including- Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Keegan-Michael Key, Natasha Rothwell, Matt Lucas, and Jim Carter. During his appearance at the CinemaCon 2023, Timothee Chalamet revealed about Hugh Grant playing the character of Willy Wonka’s Ommpa Loompa. He said-

“I think it’s the first time people saw Hugh Grant as the Oompa Loompa. It was a trip. Hugh is one of our greats … it was a dream to work with him.”

Wonka is supposed to hit the theatres on December 15 2023 around the world.
