“I didn’t know what to do”: Selena Gomez Freaked Out After Meeting Jennifer Aniston Despite Considering FRIENDS Star Her Idol
The former Disney child star, who is now a singer-songwriter, actor, and producer has around 409 million Instagram followers. Yes, we are referring to Selena Gomez, who has millions of admirers all over the world, and they would go to any lengths to see her. Like them, the Calm Down singer is also an ardent admirer of a Hollywood actress.
The 30-year-old star, who shot to fame playing the lead in Disney’s Emmy Award–winning television series, Wizards of Waverly Place, has a lot of admiration for Jennifer Aniston. The Love You Like a Love Song singer admitted that she has been a fan of Aniston since she played Rachel Green on the decade-long sitcom Friends.
But when she first saw her idol, she simply freaked out for the moment. Yes, you heard it right. Gomez admitted in earlier interviews that she felt her legs weaken after meeting the Murder Mystery star for the first time and that she eventually ran away.
She claimed that Aniston has always been one of her idols in the acting world and that the awkward encounter was one of her most embarrassing experiences.
Selena Gomez Was Starstruck After Meeting Her Idol
Selena Gomez has always been and always will be completely enamored of the Friends series, particularly Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston). In her 2009 June interview with Just Jared, the 30-year-old actor-singer recalled her first encounter with the Friends star.
“I was shaking! I ran into Jennifer in the bathroom, and she goes. I didn’t know what to do because I freaked out. I always say that I worship Rachel McAdams as a movie actress, but for comedy – the whole reason I started my show and mannerisms, they were after Jennifer Aniston.”
Gomez once more discussed how she initially tried to avoid Aniston out of nervousness in a 2013 IANS report. “I fled from Jennifer Aniston,” the singer was heard saying on a radio program. “I was terrified of her. I was scared, so I ran away and I’m really embarrassed about that.”
In addition, Aniston also made it clear that she had maternal feelings for Gomez in the first place.
At the time that Gomez met her senior fellow actor and idol, the Wolves singer was probably in desperate need of some new perspective after her roller-coaster relationship with the Baby singer.

Several years ago, Alek Keshishian introduced Jennifer Aniston and Selena Gomez, and the two later grew close. Gomez even promoted Aniston’s film Cake in December 2014 by posting a picture of the two of them on Instagram. The two actresses were seen chatting one month later at a 2015 Golden Globes after-party.
Days later, the Friends alum and Morning Show star told E! News, “She’s just like a little cherub that I feel like I wanna take care of. She’s been extremely supportive and wonderful.”
Gomez discussed how she and Aniston met through their common managers in an interview with KTU 103.5 FM that took place later that year. She described the encounter as more of a friendly introduction before she immediately extended an invitation to visit her home.
In addition, Aniston interviewed Gomez while serving as a guest host on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in January 2020. They talked about how they first connected in a restroom at a celebrity event that the singer and her mother attended.
