Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in the TV show Euphoria, recently shared that her father and grandfather were not exactly thrilled when they saw her provocative scenes on the popular series.

The 25-year-old actress gained recognition for her portrayal of Cassie Howard, a character known for her promiscuous reputation, in the well-received HBO drama that revolves around the lives of teenagers in Los Angeles.

Since joining the show in June 2019, Sweeney’s performance as Cassie has resonated with audiences, particularly teenagers and young women. Her talent even earned her a nomination for the prestigious Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2022.

However, it has now come to light that despite her critical acclaim and award nominations, her family has been less than thrilled by her bold on-screen moments.

The show explores the lives of high schoolers dealing with love, friendships, drugs, s*x, and trauma, often featuring explicit content. She admitted that she didn’t prepare her dad for what he would see, as their conversations typically revolved around father-daughter matters unrelated to work. To her surprise, her father decided to watch Euphoria without telling her, and her grandparents joined him.

“My dad and my grandpa turned it off and walked out,””Yeah, I didn’t prepare my dad…at all. I mean how do you bring up a conversation? Also, when I talk to my dad it’s usually not about work…we talk father-daughter conversations.”

During an interview with British GQ last year, Sweeney expressed her frustration, stating,

“You have a character that goes through the scrutiny of being a s*xualized person at school and then an audience that does the same thing.”

Despite facing such challenges, Sweeney, who received two Emmy nominations for her roles in White Lotus and Euphoria, remained resolute. She emphasized that these reprehensible acts would not deter her from taking on nude scenes, asserting, “I think it’s ridiculous. I’m an artist, I play characters. It makes me want to play characters that piss people off more.”

In her most recent role, Sweeney portrays Reality Winner, a former National Security Agency contractor, in the movie Reality. Based on a true story, the film depicts Winner’s arrest on suspicion of leaking confidential documents and her subsequent prison sentence of over five years.
