Daisy Ridley began her professional acting career with minor roles in TV shows like Mr Selfridge and Toast of London. Her film debut came in 2015 when she starred in the independent horror film Scrawl. She could have made her debut in 2014’s The Inbetweeners 2 if her scenes had not been removed (via Yahoo! Movies UK).

Despite this slight setback, Ridley proved to be a trailblazer as she landed the role of Rey, one of the lead characters, in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The movie turned out to be a critical and commercial success upon its release in December 2015.

It would not be wrong to say that she went from general obscurity to international recognition overnight, thanks to J. J. Abrams who did things the George Lucas way in casting relatively unknown actors. Needless to say, Ridley has worked hard to portray the character.

In a recent interview with Women’s Health magazine, she gave a rundown of her workout regime after revealing her recent diagnosis with Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disorder. She stated that she does not do high-intensity cardio running or other things that do not suit her body. As for what she does: “I do lots of stuff that is reactive and functional.”

This includes mobility exercises, hip thrusts, Bulgarian squats, lifting, general calisthenics, split squats, and lateral lunges. She does all this and more under the supervision of her trainer Matt Bevan.

Ridley starred in the next two Star Wars movies, subtitled The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, released in 2017 and 2019. Following these, her character’s future was starting to look hazy although she had expressed her desire to play the character again.

Luckily, that did not turn out to be the case as the upcoming movie subtitled New Jedi Order is in development. It is expected to start filming in 2025 to the Young Woman and the Sea actress’ words on the Smartless podcast.

It’s very exciting, I shall be reading a script soon-ish… I think we might film next year.

Rest assured, fans are still getting a movie with Rey in one of the lead roles. The film can be expected to be released in 2026 or 2027 if the shooting begins as expected.
