In a surprising revelation that no one saw coming, Tarantino has admitted he’s not interested in watching Toy Story 4Given his affection for the trilogy, this is quite a surprise.

Despite the latest sequel earning rave reviews and box office gold, the Pulp Fiction filmmaker believes that Toy Story 3 wrapped up the story with a perfect, neat bow. For him, any more sequels might just be like adding extra scenes to a masterpiece—overdoing it and losing the magic.

Quentin Tarantino can’t stop raving about the Toy Story trilogy, with a special nod to the third film. The trilogy started with Toy Story in 1995, took a sequel turn with Toy Story 2 in 1999, and wrapped up with the tear-jerking Toy Story 3 in 2010.

The third flick, where the toys bid a bittersweet adieu to their owner, has been praised for hitting all the right notes and delivering a finale that’s nothing short of box-office brilliance. If the toys had their own awards, Toy Story 3 would definitely be taking home the gold!

It’s no surprise why he thinks it’s a ‘toy-rific’ example of narrative brilliance. Tarantino hails it as “one of the best movies I’ve ever seen,” showing his belief that it’s reached the peak of narrative excellence. The director went on to say on Club Random Podcast:

In the case of Toy Story, the third one is just magnificent. It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. And if you’ve seen the other two, it’s just devastating. But the thing is, then three years later or something they did a fourth, and I have no desire to see it. You literally ended the story as perfect as you could, so no, I don’t care if it’s good. I’m done.

For the 61-year-old, the trilogy’s success shows how to end a story just right. According to him, adding any extra sequels would be totally unnecessary. That is the reason why he skipped the fourth installment entirely.

Well, Quentin Tarantino might think old movies have had their day, but the audience is clearly proving him wrong. Starring Tom Hanks and Keanu Reeves as voice stars, the film, which hit theaters in 2019, tackled big ideas like finding your identity and figuring out your purpose even when you’re not a kid anymore.

And guess what? According to The Numbers, it made over $1 billion globally and is even the highest-rated film in the series, with a 94% Popcornmeter rating on Rotten Tomatoes. And now, Toy Story 5 is on its way!

Disney CEO Bob Iger announced (via Indie Wire) at this year’s D23 Expo that Andrew Stanton, the Oscar-winning mastermind behind the original Toy Story, will be back in the director’s chair. This new installment will explore the high-tech obsession of kids, and it’s set to hit theaters on June 19, 2026.

All four Toy Story movies are available to watch on Disney+.
