Adam Sandler is one precious gem in the talent mine that is Hollywood. The Wedding Singer, Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy, and Billy Madison are some of his most notable works. Sandler made a breakthrough in the ’90s and is primarily known for his work in the comedic genre.

The Waterboy, which Sandler wrote and starred in is arguably his most successful film in terms of cultural impact. The American sports comedy film has stood the test of time and audiences have been pining for a sequel.

Sandler himself, though, doesn’t agree. The Waterboy might be his most renowned work from that era, but that is not the one he wants a sequel of.

The Waterboy is the story of a socially inept Waterman named Bobby, who works for a college football team. Bobby eventually discovers his own talent for the game and how things go from there, making an enthralling plot. The film was heartfelt and hilarious and fans would love to see Bobby’s story after his marriage to Vicky at the end of the film.

In an appearance on Variety’s Award Circuit Podcast, Adam Sandler expressed how he would enjoy making a sequel to The Waterboy but revealed he doesn’t have any ideas for one:

“That would be fun as hell. I love Mama [Kathy Bates]. I love Henry Winkler. I mean, come on. He’s always gonna be Coach Klein to me. But, I don’t know man, it’s funny. I don’t know what the ideas [would be].”

However, Sandler shared he does have an idea for another one of his iconic classics.

Even though the comedian finds himself lacking ideas for a The Waterboy sequel, Happy Gilmore is another one of his most beloved projects which fans will surely be willing to watch more of.

The film is another sports comedy and follows its titular character Happy Gilmore, a failed ice hockey player who discovers his talent for golf. Speaking of what a sequel to the film could look like Sandler told on Variety’s Award Circuit Podcast:

“Wouldn’t that be fun to do the senior tour of Happy Gilmore, and hang out with all those guys and try to write a great script about Happy as an older guy, and having to calm down his temper and all that stuff? But, I never know. Maybe one day, something like that.”

This comment has sent fans of the niched film into a frenzy. The anticipation for it was high but Sandler later shared that his theory of a potential sequel hasn’t been actionable.

Sandler said on The Dan Patrick Show:

“It has not been discussed, but it has certainly been discussed on the internet. Believe me, that Senior Tour idea, it would be so amazing.”

With that one statement, Sandler has left fans hoping for a sequel. When pressed further on the subject by the show host, Sandler said:

“Yes. Yes, you can greenlight this…I don’t know if we can do it.”

The Waterboy or Happy Gilmore, fans will take anything Sandler can give. And even as the comedian is leaning more toward Happy Gilmore, there is no guarantee of anything.
