Being the co-CEO of DC Studios could not save James Gunn from a hilarious dig by an arguable employee. Shazam! star Zachary Levi hilariously accused Gunn of using his influence to pull strings for his brother. It is no news that nepotism runs rampant in show business or any industry for that matter. However, taking a dig at the boss of the franchise might not have been the smartest move on Levi’s behalf.

Apart from the comments he made about James Gunn rehiring his brother Sean Gunn, Levi also shared his thoughts on Aquaman star Jason Momoa and starring in his own DC project.

Zachary Levi on Jason Momoa Starring As A New Character in James Gunn’s DCU

Soon after James Gunn and Peter Safran assumed their positions as co-CEOs of DC Studios, they announced that the franchise would be rebooted. So, the DC Extended Universe will be followed by the DC Universe which will be kickstarted with David Corenswet’s portrayal of a young Superman in Superman: Legacy, which is supposed to be released in 2025.

Corenswet has succeeded Henry Cavill as the new Superman. However, Gunn later said that the Enola Holmes star might return to DCU as a different character. Similarly, there has also been confirmation about other DCEU stars appearing in DCU as the characters they have played before and in some cases, new ones.

During an interview with Comic Book recently, Zachary Levi discussed the recasting of DCEU stars in DCU. Although he was a little confused about the whole recasting process, speaking of Jason Momoa’s role, Levi said:

“As far as Jason though… Are you referring to Lobo? The only character I have heard rumored was that Jason really wanted to play Lobo, but I don’t think that’s happening. I don’t know, maybe he will!”

While there has been no confirmation or denial regarding Momoa’s casting as Lobo in DCU yet, hopefully, fans will not have to wait too long to receive news on the matter.

In March 2023, Zachary Levi’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods was released to mixed reviews from critics as it was considered poorer than its 2019 predecessor. The film also turned out to be one of the poorest-performing movies of DCEU in terms of commercial success as it grossed only $125-133.8 million.

While talking to Comic Book, when Sean Gunn’s recasting as G.I. Robot and Maxwell Lord apart from his reprisal of Weasel in Creature Commandos was brought up, Zachary Levi said:

“Oh, in The Suicide Squad, but those are kind of more like cameos, I don’t know. Listen, when you’re the brother of the guy who runs DC, I guess you get to play whoever you want.”

Sean Gunn has also made an appearance in The Suicide Squad, which Levi seemed to be unaware of. Although the Tangled voice actor’s comments are a little risky for his future in the DCU, this is not the first time James Gunn has been accused of nepotism. It was earlier speculated that he might have something to do with his wife Jennifer Holland’s role in the end-credits of Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
