“I don’t want anyone touching my hair”: Britney Spears Shaved Her Head After Getting Annoyed With People Trying to Touch her Hair
Back in 2007, pop star Britney Spears was a global sensation and as an artist, the pressure got the best of her. That year was quite stressful for the singer. In 2006-2007, Spears struggled with mental health issues, she was constantly being attacked by the media so she regularly checked in and out of rehab.
Things got out of hand in February 2007 as Spears decided to shave her head herself. Later that month, she attacked a car with an umbrella outside her ex-husband, Kevin Federline’s house. The two got divorced in November 2006. In October 2007, she lost custody of her two sons, Sean and Jayden. This put a lot of mental stress on her and as a result, her father, Jamie Spears, petitioned for conservatorship of his daughter and won.
Britney Spears shaved her head in 2007
In February 2007, at the peak of her career, singer Britney Spears had a breakdown and decided to shave her head. Although the singer claimed that “she didn’t want people to touch her hair,” the actual story is quite different.
As per The Daily Mirror, Spears had left a rehab facility in the Caribbean that day and directly went to her ex-husband Kevin Federline’s house in California. She wanted to see their sons, Sean and Jayden, but Federline refused. Spears then went to Esther’s Haircutting Studio in Tarzana and asked the hairdresser, Esther Tognozzi, to give her a buzz cut.
The hairdresser tried to talk her out of it
When she asked Esther Tognozzi to cut her hair, she denied it and tried to talk her out of it. However, the singer then took the clippers and cut her hair herself. In the 2019 documentary Britney Spears: Breaking Point, Tognozzi said, “She had two bodyguards supposedly keeping an eye out to make sure the paparazzi were not getting any pictures.”
She then made her way to the Body and Soul tattoo studio in Sherman Oaks where she met tattooist Emily Wynne-Hughes. Noticing her hair, the tattoo artist asked about her hair and the singer replied,
“I just don’t want anybody, anybody touching my head. I don’t want anyone touching my hair. I’m sick of people touching my hair.”
The singer asked the tattooist to tattoo a woman’s lips inked onto her skin but she changed her mind as she then requested a small cross.
Britney Spears was placed under conservatorship
Given Britney Spears’ out-of-line behavior, the singer’s father, Jamie Spears’ petitioned for conservatorship of his daughter and won. Under the conservatorship, Spears’ father was awarded control over her finances and medical records. Initially, Andrew Wallet was the co-conservator, but then Jamie Spears was given the role of the primary conservator.
Fortunately, the conservatorship came to an end on November 12, 2021. Britney Spears’ lawyer called it a “monumental day” for the singer as she was awarded her rights back. She was once again a free woman.
