Ridley was fairly unknown at the time, which is what helped her get the role in the first place as director J. J. Abrams decided to walk in the footsteps of George Lucas and cast unpopular actors in the lead role. However, the last film in the sequel trilogy was released in 2019, and the actress recently admitted that bidding adieu to the franchise was hard for her.

George Lucas laid the foundation of the Star Wars franchise in 1977 when he wrote and directed the eponymous movie. The movie’s success spawned a series of sequels, prequels, and spin-offs, making it one of the most critically and commercially successful movie franchises worldwide.

From Harrison Ford and Oscar Isaac to Carrie Fisher and Natalie Portman, the franchise has played a major role in boosting the careers of numerous actors. Daisy Ridley stands no exception. Her role as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the first part of the sequel trilogy, earned her significant attention.

Ridley’s run as Rey in the franchise seemed to have come to an end in 2019 with the last movie of the sequel trilogy The Rise of Skywalker. These days, she is busy with promoting her upcoming biopic Young Woman and the Sea.

Recently, in an interview on Jake’s Takesthe English actress was asked how she felt about leaving the franchise and returning as Rey in a new movie. Recounting the time when she left behind Rey, she said:

I mean when I left it honestly, I had a period of mourning I had worked with a lot of the same people on three films for a significant part of my 20s so even aside from everything that Star Wars means, in a logistical way, spending that much time with people and then thinking ‘Oh there was a surety that I had in coming back to this’.
Ridley gave a proper explanation about why she felt the way she did. This shows just how much she cares about the character, the saga, and even the people she worked with even though she was not the favorite character.

The sequel trilogy continued the story of the saga. In doing so, besides Rey, many new characters like Finn, Poe Dameron, and Kylo Ren were introduced. It also featured characters from the original trilogy such as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa.

Rey turned out to be one of the most disliked characters in the movies despite her positive role. There are numerous reasons why fans dislike the character. To begin with, her changing storyline lines were a huge source of dissatisfaction among the viewers.

The second movie conveyed that her parents were nobody special, but the last movie revealed her to be a Palapatine. This confused fans about her backstory. In addition to this, she even lacked a character arc as there was not much development seen. To make things worse, she has a romance with Kylo Ren, which comes out of the blue. All these things led to the audience harboring a dislike for Rey.

The Star Wars sequel trilogy is available for streaming on Disney+.
