After spending more than a decade together, fan-favorite singer Shakira and her ex-partner Gerard Piqué announced their split two years back. Since then, the singer has been open about her feelings through songs and is set for the release of her latest album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, this month.

In a recent interview, the Hips Don’t Lie hitmaker revealed that her upcoming song about her past relationship with longtime partner Gerard Piqué made a Sony executive cry. Shakira also compared her former partner with the Harry Potter character Voldemort, the primary villain in the narrative.

Pop stars often find themselves expressing feelings through their songs, and similar is the case with globally renowned singer Shakira. The artist spent almost 11 years with former Spanish soccer player and ex-partner Gerard Piqué before they called it quits in 2022. Their separation was a major shocker for fans, as the former couple was once lauded for having a cherished love relationship.

However, coping with the breakup wasn’t smooth sailing for Shakira, and to let her feelings and pain out, the Whenever, Wherever songstress released songs and tracks like Monotonía, BZRP Music Session #53, TQG, and now her upcoming album titled, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran. In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Shakira revealed that her latest song about Piqué broke down a Sony executive. She said:

“I played it to the marketing head at Sony and he started crying. I’d never seen a man cry in my studio before.”

If love can fade, then so can pain, as the pop star mentioned, this would be her last song about Gerard Piqué, who moved on from their past relationship in a very short period. In a previous interview with Elle, Shakira labeled her grieving period as “the darkest hours of my life,” and music was the only comforting aspect. While the singer was still going through feelings of pain and broken heart, Gerard Piqué went Instagram official with his new lady love Clara Chia Marti after seven months of splitting from Shakira.

In the same interview, Shakira also shed light on holding back her career for Gerard Piqué, that doing so helped the former Spanish soccer player focus on his game. The Waka Waka singer revealed making huge sacrifices in their past relationship, only to get hurt at the end.

Shakira and Gerard Piqué share two sons Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9. While talking about her breakup and contributions to the past love relationship, the singer said:

“For a long time, I put my career on hold, to be next to Gerard, so he could play football. There was a lot of sacrifice for love.”

However, Shakira learned to be independent, as revealed in last year’s interview with a Spanish outlet Enrique Acevedo of Canal Estrellas, that she no longer believes a woman requires a man to lead a happy and fulfilling life. Last year in June, it was disclosed by People that Shakira and Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton were sharing a close bond after the singer was captured attending the F1 Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, Spain.
