“I hate the term spin-off”: Keanu Reeves to Reunite With X-Men Star in John Wick Franchise As Director Gives Exciting Updates
Director Chad Stahelski and actor Keanu Reeves recently confirmed that the fifth installment of the John Wick series would depend on a trip to Japan and a bottle of whiskey following the phenomenal success of John Wick: Chapter 4 with Reeves.
The John Wick franchise, which began with Reeves exacting revenge for the murder of a puppy almost ten years ago, is widely regarded as the best action franchise of the twenty-first century. According to reports, the fifth installment of the film, which has been given the go-ahead, will likely resurrect Sofia Al-Azwar, played by actress Halle Berry, and explore a variety of plot points and ambiguous characters.
Director Chad Stahelski confirms discussions between Halle Berry and the studio
John Wick director Chad Stahelski, in a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, confirmed that there have been some discussions with the actress Halle Berry who played Sofia Al-Azwar in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. The discussions are about her probable return to the franchise in maybe a future movie or a spinoff.
Stahelski said, “Yeah. We have been in talks several times to try to… I hate the term spinoff. But they are trying to do other satellite projects of the Wick franchise. Hopefully, they’ll be good ones.”
For the time being, however, there is the 2024 release of a Ballerina spin-off film starring Ana de Armas as well as the Peacock original series The Continental, which is based in the 1950s New York branch of the titular hotel.

Halle Berry teased the Sofia Al Azwar spinoff
Last year, the actress herself teased that her character from the movie franchise could get her spinoff when she confirmed that she was not in the latest installment. She said, “Sofia’s not in the next John Wick movie. There could possibly be a Sofia…her own movie. So she might not be in John Wick, but she might be doing her own thingy-thingy.”
The actress explained that a spinoff for Sofia could help fix the little sore she feels as she was previously set to lead an action movie spinoff that wound up getting canceled before production could start. This came after she joined the James Bond movie Die Another Day, she was expecting to reprise her role as Jinx in a spinoff, but that project never saw the daylight.
Berry confirmed in an interview, “It was ahead of its time. Nobody was ready to sink that kind of money into a black female action star. They just weren’t sure of its value. That’s where we were then.” It was recently reported that Berry and Angelina Jolie will star in the action movie Maude v Maude, and there are rumors she will return as Storm in Deadpool 3.
The phenomenal actress will also be seen in an upcoming sci-fi adventure movie titled, The Mothership and in a thriller movie, Our Man from Jersey, starring Mark Wahlberg, J.K. Simmons, Jackie Earle Haley, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
John Wick 5 should explore supporting characters
The franchise’s most devoted followers claim that they would dearly love to see Keanu Reeves‘ John Wick 5 explore the supporting characters of the film, especially after giving Reeves’ character a very clear ending in the previous film.
The fifth installment could focus on or explore these a little more, since several characters’ futures were left open-ended, including Berry’s Sofia. Fans noticed that each movie managed to introduce a new assassin who fought against and alongside the titular character.
The most recent installment, introduced several new assassins, including Tracker played by Shamier Anderson, and Akira played by Rina Sawayama, who can be an ideal prospect for subsequent films in the series. The High Table’s future is also uncertain as a result of the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, so John Wick 5 may focus on the inevitable power struggle among the High Table’s surviving members as they look for a successor to The Elder, who was killed by John Wick.
