Evans expressed his hesitation to take on the role of Captain America again, noting the importance and authenticity of his prior experience playing the character. He stated,
“I’d become, you know, it’s like this little shiny thing that I have that I love so much, and I just don’t want to mess up in any way, and I was a part of something so special for the special period and in a way, it really landed so well.”
He further added,
“As much as I’m connected to that role and love telling those stories and working with those people. It doesn’t quite feel right, right now.”
The Gray Man star’s concerns about returning to the iconic role highlight the weight and responsibility that comes with playing a beloved character like Captain America.
Despite Anthony Mackie taking up the responsibilities of the iconic character, the question of Evans’ return to the MCU still lingers. Though fans may be eager to see him reprise his role as Steve Rogers, his caring attitude suggests he’s willing to pass on the shield to a new generation of heroes.
The Shield Has Been Passed To MCU’s New Captain America, Anthony Mackie
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the character of Captain America has been a beloved hero, with Evans playing the role since 2011. However, as the MCU enters Phase 5, there has been speculation about whether he will return to the role as he passed on the mantle to Anthony Mackie.
The Ghosted actor bid farewell to the Captain America character in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Since then he’s taken up different roles, playing characters with less flashy costumes.
Earlier in an interview, Mackie expressed his hope for Evans to make an appearance in the upcoming movie Captain America: New World Order. The We have A Ghost star shared that he is friends with Evans and would love to work with him again.
While Evans has previously stated that he was finished playing Captain America, acknowledging that the mantle has been passed to the 8 Mile actor, Mackie’s comments show that he still holds out hope for Evans to return in some capacity in the future.
Despite this, Mackie has recognized that the role of Captain America now belongs to him, and he is excited to continue portraying the character in future MCU projects.
However, Evans recently expressed his fondness for the character, admitting that he misses playing Captain America and the experience of making the films. But he is also hesitant to return to the Steve Rogers role, expressing concern that his return might take away from Mackie’s story.
