“I just felt frustrated”: Game of Thrones Star Breaks Silence On ‘Garbage’ Final Seasons That Ruined His Character Due To Showrunners’ Incompetency
Game of Thrones is a popular fantasy drama television series based on the novels by George R.R. Martin. Starring Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, the series is known for its complex characters, intricate plotlines, and shocking twists. GOT ended four years ago, but fans are still not over it for some reason. Many fans had mixed feelings about the last two seasons of Game of Thrones. While some were fine with it, others were disappointed. However, they were not the only ones that had issues with the final two seasons.
Actor Conleth Hill, who portrayed the role of Lord Varys on Game of Thrones, recently talked about the show’s ending and how it ruined his character.
Conleth Hill Said He Felt Frustrated With Game of Thrones’ Last Two Seasons
Irish actor Conleth Hill played Varys on Game of Thrones, who is a spymaster also known as the Spider. During an interview with The Times, Hill opened out about his character’s ending and expressed frustration with how it was written in the last two seasons of the series. He added that GOT’s last season felt rushed and it also affected his role.
Hill stated that he believed he had done something wrong because he had no complaints before the last two seasons. He added, “I just felt frustrated with the last couple of series because Varys wasn’t the all-knowing character he had been. I think the writers wanted to do one thing to end it and the studio HBO wanted to do another. I felt that the last series was a bit rushed.” Hill also mentioned that he was inconsolable at that moment, but now he is fine.
Conleth Hill Has Previously Expressed His Dissatisfaction
This is not the first time that Hill has expressed his dissatisfaction with how his character was written. During the Game of Thrones season 8 table read, the actor appeared visibly distressed during Lord Varys’ death scene and immediately placed the script aside when he was finished reading. Hill once again voiced his displeasure with how his character was sidelined during the last two seasons in 2019, which he said he understood given the ensemble nature of the series, but eventually found aggravating.
Spin-Off Of Games of Thrones
Game of Thrones ended four years ago, but the franchise is only getting started. The second season of House of the Dragon, the critically acclaimed prequel series, is currently in production. HBO is also planning Jon Snow-centric series and a show called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.
The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones premiered in April 2019 and concluded in May 2019.
