The Flash, a recent release by DC Studios starring Ezra Miller, has received mixed reviews from critics and viewers, with particular attention paid to the acting in the film. But according to recent reports, Warner Bros. was unimpressed with the movie’s box office performance.

The reports claim that despite the executives at Warner Bros. working extremely hard to convince the audience that The Flash is one of the best superhero movies ever made, it did not bring in the anticipated amount of money at the box office. However, the actor has been getting a lot of praise from the public and professionals in the field, who claimed that it was Miller’s best performance to date.

Zack Snyder joins the Ezra Miller appreciation train

Director Zack Snyder, who was in Brazil to attend Netflix’s Tudum global fan event to give the audience a little sneak peek of his upcoming movie Rebel Moon, was asked about The Flash on the red carpet.

The director, who was accompanied by Deborah Synder, said they haven’t watched the movie and will be watching it next weekend but are very excited to see it. Snyder also said, “Ezra, I love him. I’ve been texting with him. I’m just excited to see it.”

Snyder joins the list of people who have appreciated the actor for their performance in the movie. Director Andy Muschietti had previously shared,

“I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys – it feels like a character that was made for them.”

As soon as the clip of Snyder saying that he loves Ezra Miller and he has been texting with ‘him’ was uploaded, it went viral because several fans noted that Snyder misgendered Miller by using the wrong pronouns for them. It should be noted that Ezra Miller uses ‘they/them’ as their pronouns after they announced that they identify as non-binary.

One fan tweeted, “Zack Snyder misgendering Ezra is everything I need to know about Snyder fans.” Another fan quoted the tweet and wrote, “Misgendering someone you’ve known for several years is insane.” Another Twitter user asked, is ‘Zack Snyder a transphobe?’

A user commented, “Zack Snyder wants to see The Flash and uses the correct pronouns for Ezra Miller. The Snyderverse fandom truly is the complete opposite of how Snyder is.” Where a lot of fans did not like how Snyder misgendered the actor by using the wrong pronouns, some pointed out that it is nice of him to appreciate the actor’s hard work where as some asked “Who says they love Ezra Miller as a person in 2023?” This tweet is directed at Miller’s controversial life.

Did Ezra Miller’s controversial history be blamed for The Flash’s poor box office collection?

It is no longer a secret that Warner Bros. expected The Flash to do well at the box office and it had failed to meet the expectations. Some publications pointed out that maybe it bombed because of Miller’s controversial life.

TMZ wrote, “Some might attribute [the low box office performance] to Ezra themself … who’s been mired in controversies for about 2 years now. It might also be the lack of a traditional press run the studio opted for – there were hardly any interviews in the lead-up.”

Miller was first detained in 2022 and has since been involved in several controversies, including allegations of assault and abuse as well as charges of harassment and burglary. In August of last year, they apologized for their behavior and acknowledged that they were receiving treatment for complex mental health issues.

Miller, however, shocked everyone when they showed up at The Flash‘s premiere but chose not to interact with the media, which is also thought to be one of the reasons the film was a failure. According to recent reports, The Flash 2 won’t be made unless The Flash performs well at the box office, which feels very uncertain right now.
