“I probably had 35,000 in the bank”: Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Shared Bank Account long Before They Earned $320 Million Fortune in Hollywood
We have seen many friendships in Hollywood, and one such bromance story includes Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, who have been friends since they were kids and they grew up together in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Both actors have worked hard in their careers and continue to support each other in projects, including their most recent film Air.
The childhood mates became friends when Damon was 10 and Affleck was 8. Since then, they have worked their way up and today they are successful movie stars in the film industry. They’ve worked in films, including Good Will Hunting, The Last Duel, School Ties, The Battle of Shaker Heights, and Field of Dreams, among many others.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Iconic Friendship
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon surprisingly, shared a bank account to support their acting auditions. On a recent episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast, the actors disclosed that they shared a bank account in the late 1980s to pay for auditions and start their acting careers. This was the only way for them to hunt for opportunities during their struggling days in the entertainment industry, and The Last Thing star also revealed that he still has a checkbook from that account. Matt Damon said,
“It was unusual, but we needed the money for auditions it’s a weird thing in retrospect.“
The Triple Frontier actor added,
“We were going to help each other and be there for each other. It was like, ‘You’re not going to be alone. I’m not going to be alone. Let’s go out there and do this together.”
The actors revealed that whenever one of them secured a role, the money from the event was deposited into their bank accounts. The Great Wall movie actor explained,
“As long as one of us had money we knew the power wasn’t going to get shut off. After doing 1992′s Geronimo I probably had 35 grand in the bank. I was like ‘we’re good for a year.”
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s friendship is truly inspiring they have worked together for years in Hollywood and have won awards for their incredible acting skills. Good Will Hunting was the first movie they both appeared in together as they wrote the screenplay and starred in the movie.
Ben Affleck Says He Loves Working With Matt Damon
Ben Affleck further discusses his friendship with Damon and how rewarding it has been since they collaborated on several projects and achieved massive success at the box office.
The American actor says,
“I love working with this guy. I love hanging out with him. If you can work with great people, who are good people too, it’s so much more rewarding personally and professionally.”
Damon shared,
“You were allowed to go to New York with the money you were allowed to take out $10 and get quarters and go to the arcade and play video games. Eventually, we were allowed to try to buy beer, which never fucking worked.”
The actors have come a long way, and their strong bond and friendship have played a major role in their success. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon went from failing to get auditions to launching their own production firm, Artist’s Equity. Their film Air will be released in theaters on April 5.
