“I sat down and cried for hours..I don’t like to hurt anybody”- Things Got Ugly Between Jennifer Lopez And Madonna After JLo Insulted Madonna’s Acting Career
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, made their romance a little too obvious in Madonna’s opinion. The singer for Material Girl made news in 2003 when she discussed Bennifer. She stated that there are aspects of the relationship that one must keep private. She claimed that the couple “courted the media attention.” However, with the two finally married, one can see that media attention is the last thing on the couple’s minds.
The friendship that Jennifer Lopez shares with Madonna has always been gray. The singers faced a rocky moment in their friendship in 1998. It all took place when the On The Floor singer attended an interview. She started roasting several actresses during the interview. This led to the period when Madonna and Jennifer Lopez were torn apart.
Jennifer Lopez can be quite the savage commentator
She was cast in the 1998 film Out of Sight with George Clooney. During the film’s promotional run, she gave an interview that has since become infamous. In an interview with Movieline, Jennifer Lopez discussed her rising career, Out of Sight, and the actresses she considered to be “the bottom of the A-list of actresses“. This list would also include herself along with Madonna, Cameron Diaz, Salma Hayek, Winona Ryder, and Gwyneth Paltrow. When asked about Madonna when it came to her acting, the singer stated the following.
“Do I think she’s a great performer? Yeah. Do I think she’s a great actress? No. Acting is what I do, so I’m harder on people when they say, ‘Oh, I can do that–I can act.’ I’m like, ‘Hey, don’t spit on my craft.’”
The singer did not realize the impact her words would have back then. As her words about the actresses would reach their ears soon after. Madonna and her friendship was one bond that left the singer regretting every word she said. She reasoned that it was all in the name of humor.
Madonna gave the singer a cold shoulder for her words about her
Madonna and a few of her friends took great offense at Jennifer Lopez’s remarks. As the Vogue singer let it be known in her own manner by giving her the cold shoulder. Christopher Ciccone, Madonna’s brother, wrote about the incident in his biography Life with My Sister Madonna. After damaging so many connections with the actresses, Ben Affleck‘s new wife revealed how it destroyed her internally.
“I don’t like to hurt anybody. I don’t like to hurt their feelings. I like to joke, so I do that sometimes. What they wrote in that article hurt people. [After reading it] I just sat down and cried for hours.”
Clearly, the singer did not expect the media to twist her words. Since that incident, the singer has been more careful about what she says to the media. It has left quite the emotional scar on her considering it was her own words taken at face value that trashed a lot of friendships.
The two have repaired their friendship since then
After repairing her friendship with Madonna, The Rebel Heart Tour and a charity event for Madonna’s Raise Malawi initiative in collaboration with UNICEF were two events that Jennifer Lopez attended in recent years. They all appear to be on better terms now, 20 years later. The two have seemingly reconciled and are at a much better stage in their friendship as compared to their rocky phase between 1998 to 2001.
