“I wouldn’t be doing that now”: Nicole Kidman’s Party Girl Act After Tom Cruise Marriage When Her $185 Million Blockbuster Released
- Nicole Kidman was married to Tom Cruise for more than a decade before they called it quits in 2001.
- Kidman went into party girl mode after the release of her movie, but she would not do it now.
- The Dead Calm actress's emotions are closer to the surface than they have ever been.
Nicole Kidman became Hollywood’s ‘It’ girl even before this was a thing. At 57 years old, she continues to hold that status, especially since she continues to break stereotypes and take roles that would even make actresses younger than her think twice. Case in point: her role in the erotic thriller, Babygirl.
This is not the first time Kidman has taken up a raunchy role, but it certainly came as a surprise that she is still at the top of her game. She had done one such role with her ex-husband, Tom Cruise in the movie, Eyes Wide Shut.
Unfortunately, they parted ways two years later. Months after their separation, one of Kidman’s movies was released, and after that happened, she pulled a party girl act. However, she admits that she would no longer do it.
Nicole Kidman Would No Longer Do What She Did After This Blockbuster Movie Was Released
Nicole Kidman was 16 when she made her film debut with the remake of the Australian holiday classic, Bush Christmas. By the time she made her Hollywood debut in 1990 with the sports action movie Days of Thunder, she had already gained international recognition with her breakthrough role in the Australian psychological thriller Dead Calm.
Kidman and Cruise fell for each other while filming Days of Thunder and married in late 1990. They were married for a decade and were one of the power couples in Hollywood throughout their marriage. Unfortunately, fate had something else in store for them, as they separated in February 2001. It came as a shock to many when it was first announced and over the years, the reason for their separation has continuously been a topic of discussion.
In May 2001, Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rogue! was released. In a recent interview with GQ, Kidman said that she was a proper party girl after its release.
When Moulin Rouge! came out I was DJing at two or three in the morning. I wouldn’t be doing that now. And that’s a choice.
The musical romantic drama featured Kidman as a Moulin Rouge cabaret actress and courtesan, Satine who becomes the love interest of the Scottish poet, Christian (Ewan McGregor). The film was a commercial success with a box-office collection of $185 million (via Box Office Mojo) and won two out of eight Academy Award nominations.
Nicole Kidman on How Major Events of Her Life Have Made Her More Connected to Her Emotions
When people are young, they have a kind of carelessness to them which only comes from not yet being fully attuned to the depth and complexity of their emotions. At 57, Kidman is more in touch with her emotions than ever. In the interview with GQ, she reflected on how she has come to be like this.
Mortality. Connection. Life coming and hitting you. And loss of parents and raising children and marriage and all of the things that go into making you a fully sentient human. I’m in all of those places. So life is, whew. It’s definitely a journey. And it hits you as you get older how it’s a wake up at 3 am crying and gasping kind of thing.
She claims that this only happens when people are not trying to numb themselves to it, and as far as she is concerned, she is completely in for it. As she navigates her way through this, she also continues to make bold choices in her professional life.
