The idea of watching our favorite TV Shows as a full-length film many times sounds absurd. It’s like watching a 2-3 hour precap of a number of seasons. The idea of adapting a popular television show’s premise and characters into a film — with different actors playing familiar parts — has long been a Hollywood favorite. However, it doesn’t always prove to be a great idea.
Due to this very reason, viewers were made to witness terrifying movies adapted from their favorite TV Shows. Listed here are some of the excellent examples of the worst transformations that not only ruined our expectations but also got us like “Oh my God!!! Oh, My eyes!!! My eyes!!!”
The Avengers (1998)
When Marvel came along and helped erase the 1998 film ‘The Avengers’ from public memory, Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman must’ve been delighted. But it’ll take a lot more than Iron Man and Captain America to eliminate the image of Sean Connery strangely dressed as a giant bear attempting to manipulate the weather. This film is truly revolting, one of the worst examples of losing the point of the subject matter while remaining oddly true to its more grandiose aspects, resulting in Frankenstein’s monster of irrelevance.
Æon Flux (2005)
In the early 1990s, MTV’s avant-garde sci-fi animated series became something of a cult sensation. Admiring the success it was later brought to us in a movie. Charlize Theron is featured in this live-action version of Peter Chung’s popular action ‘toon. However, the original creator, Peter Chung, was not involved in the film’s development. “The movie is a travesty,” Peter said in an interview. “I was unhappy when I read the script four years ago; seeing it projected larger than life in a crowded theatre made me feel helpless, humiliated, and sad.” Critics frequently use the word “dull” to describe the film, which is something that most fans of the show desire to avoid.
Bewitched (2005)
Nicole Kidman’s Oscar-winning performance in The Hours was followed by this remake of the dazzling magical sitcom Bewitched, which quickly sealed her image as the Queen of Flops in the late-2000s. From Nora Ephron behind the camera to Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, and Shirley MacLaine in the supporting ensemble, this had greatness written all over it, but it still managed to fail our expectations.
The Last Airbender (2010)
Fans of Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender were delighted — and then terrified — to learn that the iconic cartoon series will be adapted into a live-action film. The film’s most serious errors included poor dialogue, redundant story changes, and questionable casting. In terms of live adaptations, The Last Airbender was such a hit-or-miss proposition that Æon Flux feels like home runs.
Baywatch (2017)
The TV series “Baywatch” was a guilty pleasure at best, but it lasted longer than expected. With so many attractive people of both sexes participating in the show, it’s no wonder that a “Baywatch” film was developed, though not featuring the TV cast. Although no one could ever blame the original syndicated lifeguard drama for being “clever,” it still deserved more than this big-screen adaptation’s pure idiocy. Clearly, there was plenty of body to go around — which helped the film’s box office success — but the film’s five Razzie Award nominations, including one for Worst Movie, came as no surprise.
