Idris Elba To Play Deathstroke In James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’

An exciting new project in the DCEU is the Suicide Squad, which will be a reimagination of the DC comics villain team to be directed and written by James Gunn. Idris Elba will be joining the star-studded cast of Suicide Squad, to be finally written by the original director James Gunn. Idris Elba May be portraying Deathstroke in the film.

Idris Elba Favourite For the role Of Deathstroke

As hard by Barstool Sports’ Robbie Fox came up with some intriguing information regarding Idris Elba’s identity in the Suicide Squad, tweeting it making fans more excited.

Another report was dropped by Geeks Worldwide which claimed that James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy is looking for an actress to portray the daughter of Elba’s character. It also states on if Idris Elba plays Deathstroke or not, who has a daughter named Rose Wilson/ Sportsmaster.

Idris Elba will replace Will Smith

Idris Elba was revealed to join the Suicide Squad cast after Will Smith announced that he won’t be returning to reprise the role. Idris Elba was originally going to to take over as the character, but it’s speculated that the actor’s role shall get repurposed for Suicide Squad, leaving windows opened for a possible Will Smith return in the future.

About Deathstroke, Joe Manganiello was earlier set to okay Deathstroke in the DCEU for a while even appearing in the post credits scene of Justice League where he meets Lex Luthor to form a team of villains. Deathstroke was also rumoured to be the villain in the Batman film while Affleck was still working with DCEU before exiting the franchise.

If Idris Elba will be playing the role in the Suicide Squad film, this will be really interesting sign that DC isn’t hesitant to go on with its continuity giving filmmakers to carve their own version of characters.

Disney Rehires James Gunn

Disney earlier fired Gunn from the Guardians franchise after his decade old offensive tweets resurfaced. Gunn went on to then sign a project with DC for writing the next Suicide Squad. However, Gunn was rehired later by Disney. The filming for the third installation of Guardians of the Galaxy will begin after Suicide Squad gets wrapped up.

Suicide Squad will hit theatres on 6th August, 2021.
