“I’m in the worst shape of my life”: Desperate To Save His Hollywood Career, Will Smith Sheds Infamous Dad Bod, Loses 30 Pounds For ‘Emancipation’
Actor Will Smith caused a stir on social media earlier this year after the actor slapped comedian Chris Rock on stage for making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. After the incident, the actor disappeared for a while until recently, he announced the release of his latest film Emancipation. The actor revealed that he had to let go of his ‘dad bod’ and get in shape in order to portray his character more accurately. The actor was on a short hiatus following the Oscars incident and he is also banned from attending all of the Academy’s events for 10 years.
Will Smith lost 30 pounds for the movie
Actor Will Smith appeared on the latest episode of Red Table Talk and revealed that he had to hit the gym for his latest movie, Emancipation. The actor said,
“You guys may remember I posted the out of shape…the ‘dad bod’ picture. The ‘dad bod’ picture was my beginning of preparation to lose weight for Peter. I was probably 225-ish when I started and at the lowest, on the movie, I got to 195.”
The actor plays the role of Peter, an enslaved man who escapes a Louisiana plantation in 1860, so the actor wanted to portray that character more accurately and that is why he got in shape. In May 2021, a photo of Will Smith’s ‘dad bod’ went viral on social media. “I’m gonna be real wit yall – I’m in the worst shape of my life,” he said at the time, referring to his body.
Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on-stage
Comedian Chris Rock hosted the 2022 Oscars which took place in March 2022. While hosting, the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head. Her husband, Will Smith, found it offensive as he went up to the stage and slapped the comedian, ordering him to “keep my wife’s name out your f**king mouth.” In the comedian’s defense, he later said he did not know about his wife’s medical condition.
The Hancock star apologized later that night on Twitter, however, the Academy banned the actor from attending all its events for 10 years as the Academy was “overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behavior we saw Mr. Smith exhibit on stage.”
Can he still win an Oscar?
Will Smith’s latest movie has received a lot of positive reviews and his fans are wondering if he can still win the Best Actor Award despite being banned from attending the event. If the movie is included in the list he can surely get nominated for the Best Actor Award. The actor won the Best Actor Oscar at the event shortly after he slapped the comedian in March 2022. This is his first release after the Oscars incident so the actor was bound to display his best performance.
Emancipation was released on Apple TV+ on 9th December 2022.
