“I’m not traumatized”: Judd Apatow Claims He Doesn’t Mind Daughter Maude’s Explicit Scenes in Euphoria After Making Himself a Clown for Trying to Troll Tom Cruise
Having to watch your children do NSFW stuff is not a normal parent’s picnic. In fact, most would dub it a nightmare indeed. Euphoria actors for example might have had an awkward dinner if their parents stumbled upon an episode. Sydney Sweeney once shared how she entirely forgot to tell her parents about working on the HBO show and how positively shocked they were when they found out. Her onscreen sister, however, had to face no such qualms. Maude Apatow’s father Judd Apatow was cool, in fact ecstatic, to see his daughter’s work.
Judd Apatow is a ‘cool dad’ to Maude Apatow
Judd Apatow was hosting the Directors Guild of America Awards in Beverly Hills on Saturday when he told People about how much he liked the hit HBO series, not minding the explicitness at all. Apatow said at the California event,
“I can watch it. I love it. I’m not traumatized because I’ve read the scripts.”
His daughter, Maude Apatow plays the role of Lexie Howard in Euphoria. The 55-year-old also had advice for his daughters – Maude, 25, and Iris, 20, as he said,
“Just do things that you’re passionate about. Don’t do anything just to work. Do things that you really care about.”
This was not the first time that the proud parent got to gush at his daughter’s success. Last year he was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live where he addressed the same topic.
He said jokingly,
“Maude is on Euphoria right now, which I’m happy about. You want your kids to surpass you, but not that fast.”
About his wish to have grandchildren, he said of his daughter Maude,
“She’s like, ‘Dad, I can’t have kids, I play a 16-year-old on a high school show.’ And I was, like, ‘Yeah, but I’ve seen that show, I don’t think it would be that weird.'”
The 40-year-old Virgin director shared his reaction to Euphoria with Entertainment Tonight, claiming that watching Maude on it made him “really emotional.” He further said, “I’m just in a puddle. I’m just bawling and crying. You’re always happy when your kids are doing well and have a job.”
Maude Apatow was often a part of Her Dad’s Directorial Ventures
Apatow’s daughters have also previously worked with him on several of his productions, like Knocked Up and This Is 40.
The King of Staten Island director had once told People about working with his daughters when they were little,
“A lot of the time, I don’t think she knew there was a camera rolling. I would sit her next to her sister, and I would just say some key phrase, and then they would just start fighting… I remember once, Maude had a little doll in the car and she tossed it and hit Iris on her nose. And then Iris started crying and I was like, ‘Great, we’ll use that in the movie! That’s a real moment of hostility.’ “
He jokingly added, “Years later, Iris saw it and she was like, ‘I can’t believe you used me really crying!’ So one might say, bad parenting.”
That’s quite a dad but then again, Judd Apatow has always been a hoot and his movies are a clear reflection of his personality.
