One of the biggest ongoing scandal-turned-legal dramas between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni started after the two of them starred in It Ends With Us. The movie is an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s 2016 novel of the same name and addresses themes including domestic violence and emotional abuse.
The film was released in August 2024 and went on to receive mixed reactions from the audience, especially the readers. However, it was a success when released on the streaming platform Netflix. But what surprised the entire world was the lawsuit that Lively filed in December 2024 against Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios. But amidst all of this, Hoover, who had extended her support to the leading lady, decided to take a step back, raising questions about her break from writing.
It Ends With Us author Colleen Hoover deactivates her social media amid the Blake Lively-Justin Baldoni drama
Regarded as one of the best-selling authors, Colleen Hoover might not have even imagined how her beloved novel It Ends With Us’ live-action adaptation is going to turn into one of the biggest controversies/legal battles in 2024. The author was very excited to have both Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni as the leading pair for bringing her novel onto the big screen.
But after Lively filed a lawsuit against Justin Baldoni and his production company alleging that she was subjected to s*xual harassment on set. She also claimed that the actor-director hired a PR firm to start a smear campaign against her. The day after Lively filed a complaint, author Colleen Hoover shared a message of support for the actress on her social media story. She wrote (via People),
Justin Baldoni, on the other hand, has denied all the allegations brought against him and filed a $250 million lawsuit against The New York Times. He alleges that the publication reported the news without proper fact-checking. The actor later filed a $400 million lawsuit against the actress and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, claiming defamation, extortion, and more. Justin Baldoni’s team has been releasing footage, text messages, and behind-the-scenes footage to prove their point.
While Lively-Baldoni’s drama goes on, Colleen Hoover decides to swiftly take a step back from social media and deactivate her Instagram. And now sources have shared that the author is allegedly retiring from writing. The blind item comes from the IG account DeuxMoi, and sources alleged that Hoover decided to deactivate her account to keep herself away from the drama. (Via StyleCaster)
However, according to Simon & Schuster UK, the author has acquired two standalone novels, which are scheduled to be released in 2024 & 2026. The author shared back in 2024 with People that she hadn’t written at all and felt a lot of guilt for that. She also added that she has been extremely busy and her mind has been all over the place.
The author finally continued that she feels the need to write and forego sleep and eat and speak to anyone and just get the book out.
