A fashion mishap can often become both a hilarious and tiring experience for an actor. Even though the Devil might have the delight to wear Prada, it will also have a fair share of bloopers. Even the most fashionable actresses on the set might find themselves in trouble performing a simple scene due to a wardrobe malfunction. In a very recent interview, Emily Blunt spills some tea on how Meryl Streep, had rambunctious days in performing one of the simplest scenes on the set of the most iconic film, The Devil Wears Prada.

Emily Blunt recalls the bad day for Meryl Streep on the set of The Devil Wears Prada

The movie The Devil Wears Prada purely revolves around the fashion industry and it will be wild to say that the actors didn’t struggle with the fashion clothes during the shoot. In a recent interview, Emily Blunt recalls the struggle of Meryl Streep with one of the most straightforward scenes. According to Emily Blunt, there were around 30 takes in a scene where Meryl Streep playing the role of Miranda had to storm into the office each morning and slam her overcoat on the actress’s desk. She said “It was a hard day for Meryl” because her arm was stuck in the coat or didn’t hit the desk correctly. The overcoat created a walking hazard for Meryl Streep which was designed by Patricia Fields and was worth $1 million. Blunt recalls it to be one of the funniest things that she has ever seen.

The colossal costume budget for The Devil Wears Prada

One thing that this movie was known for was its ability to showcase one of the most fashionable clothes. Even though many designers refused to lend clothes for the movie, the producers kept a wardrobe budget of $1 million. Patricia Field who recently worked for Sex and the City and Emily in Paris was given the charge to design the costume for this movie. To date, most of the costumes worn by Andera, Emily Blunt, Miranda and are preserved and none of them have lost their excellence even after 17 years. One of the most precious pieces was the $100,000 Egyptian-inspired Fred Leighton necklace worn by Meryl Streep. Even after being the designer for the movie Patricia Field and her status the couture houses hesitated to lend clothes.

There were (initially) no designers of note who would appear in the film. They just didn’t want to incur the wrath of (editor-in-chief) Anna (Wintour),” director David Frankel explains. “I think it was Prada that helped her break the ice and said that Anna’s not going to be upset.”

Despite all of these difficulties the movie was able to showcase one of the best clothes and gained a lot of success at the box office. And if anything, this behind-the-scenes fiasco proves then even a wardrobe budget of 1 million dollars won’t let the actors escape the clutches of fashion mishaps.
