Dylan Minnette’s Unconventional Career Shift
Despite receiving heaps of praise for his role as Clay Jensen in 13 Reasons Why, Dylan Minnette quit acting, leaving fans scratching their heads. The actor opened up about this rather bizarre career shift, stating he wishes to explore music with his band, Wallows.
Minnette said he and his band members, including Braeden Lemasters and Cole Preston, have intensely dreamt of taking music as far as they can. The Netflix star was scouted by an agent in Chicago; soon after, he began working on commercials and modeling projects at the age of eight.
In a conversation on The Zach Sang Show, Minnette got candid about his feelings. He stated:
I was on 13 Reasons Why and it was really popular and definitely reached a peak in what I’ve had in acting. But it also started to feel like a bit of a job. I was in a very fortunate position, it was always fun for me, always really inspiring, but then it was just starting to feel like just a job.
The Saving Grace actor explained that he’s in a position where he could tap into the music business and see where it takes him. He’s eager to make Wallows a “real band” and do “real band things” with his mates. Minnette is pretty serious about his passion for music and wants to prove to the world what he’s capable of.
Of course, fans are heartbroken—but Minnette feels that pursuing his passion is more inspiring. Embracing his love for music, he’s now dedicated to taking the indie scene by storm!
Dylan Minnette on pursuing a music career with Wallows
Discussing his music-fanaticism on the show. Minnette said:
This is what feels natural and inspiring.
However, he often ponders whether or not he should return to acting. Minnette mentioned on the Zach Sang Show that he would’ve returned to Hollywood, but that time frame ended up being during the actors’ strike.
The American actor and musician an interview on the Zach Sang Show. He added:
I do feel like I have something to give, and that’s probably acting… I feel like I’m starting to feel inspiration for that again.
Reflecting on his music plans, he further added that when he has fulfilled “Wallows duties,” he shall be ready to take a break from his band.
Despite all of this, Dylan Minnette did return to acting several times following the conclusion of 13 Reasons Why. He starred in the Hulu program The Dropout and was included in the 2022 movie Scream. Fans are eager to see more acting roles from Minnette, and the celebrity himself appears motivated to return to the stage soon.
