“It was so f**king good”: Bridgerton Season 3 Breathing New Life Into Pitbull’s Iconic 2011 Track Was Its Most Unexpected Twist
The new season of Bridgerton — a popular romance drama set in Regency-era England — has surprised fans with its use of a modern pop song. In the fourth episode, the characters Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) share a steamy make-out session soundtracked by a stripped-down cover of Pitbull’s 2011 hit Give Me Everything.
Mr. Worldwide’s 2011 hit is a club anthem that is all about having fun and enjoying the moment. The lyrics focus on the desire for a passionate and unforgettable night. It isn’t the first time, the show is known for using popular songs in many unexpected ways.
Bridgerton Season 3 Revives Pitbull’s 2011 Hit
Using a Pitbull song, Give Me Everything, in Bridgerton is unexpected because it’s different from the usual music on the show. Jess Brownell, the person in charge of the show, said she chose the song because she thought it matched the characters’ journey and had a good buildup. The showrunner stated in a recent interview with Business Insider that the choice was unusual, but it ultimately fit the scene:
If you think about that scene, it is years worth of their friendship and Penelope’s crush coming to this giant crescendo. I listened to a lot of slower romantic songs, but none of them felt like they had the right impact and the right build and the right crescendo. And that Pitbull song has so many builds within it that it just, I think, kind of nails the dynamic that’s happening in the scene.

In the first part of season three of Bridgerton, along with Pitbull’s hit song, several other popular tunes were covered. These include Billie Eilish‘s Happier Than Ever, BTS‘s Dynamite, GAYLE’s abcdefu, Nick Jonas‘ Jealous, Sia‘s Cheap Thrills, and a rendition of Taylor Swift‘s Snow On The Beach, featuring Lana Del Rey.
Bridgerton Has a Tradition of Blending Pop with Classic Themes
Bridgerton is famous for using pop songs in its orchestral covers. Since it started in 2020, the show has included covers of popular tunes by artists like Ariana Grande, Nirvana, and Whitney Houston. Justin Kamps, the show’s music supervisor, explained that he chose these covers to help today’s viewers connect with the characters and stories, even though the show is set in the past.
Kamps said in an interview with TODAY:
Pop music can have so much drama and romance. What the show does is heighten these kind of everyday feelings of romance that people have throughout their lives. And it’s fun to hear a song that you’ve had a connection with in your own life transposed into this string quartet version that is playing with and affecting the characters’ lives throughout the show.
The use of pop music covers is just one of the things that has made Bridgerton such a popular show. The series has been praised for its diverse cast, its romantic storylines, and its opulent visuals.
Bridgerton season 3 has two part. The first part is currently streaming on Netflix.
