“It’s a world that I’m scared to raise my kids in”: Amber Heard’s Sister Whitney Feels Scared After Being Harassed By Johnny Depp Fans
The highly publicized trial of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard shocked the world due to many details which unveiled later with time. During the trial, the latter was majorly criticized by the public and continued to get backlash even when the trial concluded. While many were against the actress, the latter’s younger sister Whitney Henriquez always supported her sibling and slammed the actor for the negative attention Heard was going through.
The Aquaman star’s younger sister has recently opened up about the harassment her elder sister has to undergo due to the trial. Not just that, she also questioned the verdict that came on June 1 this year.
Whitney Henriquez Supporting Her Sister, Amber Heard
In a Thursday Instagram post, Amber Heard‘s younger sister, Whitney Henriquez shared her thoughts on the aggravation her sister has to undergo due to the former’s defamation trial against Johnny Depp. She had always been there for the Aquaman star and chose to stay by her side even when the trial went in her favor.
In the post, she wrote, “To simply say that my faith in humanity has been called into question since the trial/verdict would be a gross understatement…” referring to the online bullying the former experienced during/after the publicized lawsuit,
“Not only did it highlight some pretty f**king major flaws in the judicial system, it also showed just how deeply misogynistic this world is and how harassment of anyone who speaks out or has a differing opinion is just simply accepted (just take a look at some of the comments on my posts, and undoubtedly this one).”
“It’s a world that I’m scared to raise my kids in, and every day it just seems harder and harder to navigate and deal with,” she shared.
“Finally, the tides are shifting… Finally!” she added referring to an open letter signed by over “130 experts and organizations” condemning the public shaming the actress received.
Whitney Henriquez Had Always Supported Her Sister
It’s not a secret that Henriquez has always been candid about supporting the 36-year-old actress. Even when the verdict was not in favor of Heard, she continued to cheer up her sister.
Back then, she stated, “I’m so sorry that it wasn’t reflected in the decision made by this jury, but I will never give up on you, and neither will anyone who stands with you. Forever by your side.”
Even when her former husband appeared in this year’s VMAs, she openly criticized him and showed her support for her sibling in any way possible.
Amber Heard Lost The Defamation Lawsuit
The ex-couple was engaged in a defamation lawsuit that was filed by Depp. It all started to stem in 2018 when the actress wrote an op-ed piece in The Washington Post claiming herself a domestic abuse victim.
Due to that post, the Pirates of the Caribbean star faced a backlash that affected his reputation along with his professional career. He then filed the case against his ex-wife demanding $50 million as damages with Heard countersuing him for $100 million.
After weeks of trial, Heard was found liable for defaming her ex-husband with the actor winning the trial. The court ordered the mother of one to pay him $10.35m as damages while she was awarded $2m for her counter-claims.
She then asked the judge to toss the jury’s verdict claiming that the verdict was not supported by evidence.
