‘It’s Amazing’: Rick Riordan Praises Disney+ Percy Jackson First Footage
In May of 2020, Disney announced the development of a Percy Jackson TV adaption, which is now in production. The new TV series is based on the Percy Jackson and the Olympians book series written by Rick Riordan, and it follows the titular character as he navigates his adolescent years after discovering he is the son of the Greek god Poseidon.

The fact that Riordan was mostly excluded from the filmmaking process contributed to the unfavorable reception of the Percy Jackson movies. Riordan and his wife Becky, on the other hand, are significantly involved in the development of the Disney program. Percy Jackson creator Rick Riordan has even applauded early footage from the coming Disney+ show.

Riordan declared on his blog that the first week of filming for the Percy Jackson series is finished. Riordan compliments the show’s three young protagonists for their professionalism and ability, as well as their apparent chemistry, in the piece. Finally, he describes the raw Percy Jackson footage as “amazing” so far.
“A lot of my day, then, is sitting in a dark tent with the other producers, watching the shots happen and giving feedback when needed — which honestly isn’t very often. The raw footage is amazing, even before any editing. While watching the filming, I’ll have my laptop open to work on script revisions, or check updates to the schedule, or look at casting tapes for upcoming roles later in the season.”

Even though production for the Percy Jackson TV series is still in its early stages, Riordan’s reaction to the raw footage is a positive signal. The original Percy Jackson book series was so successful due to Riordan’s writing, so having the author working closely on the TV program should be reassuring to those wishing for a faithful adaptation. Though it remains to be seen whether Percy Jackson can still find popularity on screen, the series appears to be on the right track.
