The singer-turned-actor weighs in on his experience entering Hollywood.

The American rapper and singer has many hits to his name, including a few collaborations with big names in the industry. As much as Jack Harlow likes to flex his vocal cords, the singer deemed it harder to make it big in Hollywood. His first movie was White Men Can’t Jump which eventually bombed at the box office. It failed to kickstart Harlow’s acting career despite the singer wishing for it ardently.

Following the footsteps of many singers turned actors including Lady Gaga and Harry Styles, Harlow dreamt of successfully finding his footing in Hollywood. However, upon entering the industry, he saw how challenging it truly was. Harlow has another movie coming up, titled The Instigators along with Matt Damon. Speaking to Variety, Harlow claimed,

I learned I’ve got a lot more work to do. I’ve got to get better if I really want to do it. It’s tough. It’s harder than I thought. It’s either you do it or you don’t. It felt like ‘White Boys’ was the type of opportunity you take, and then you learn from how it goes. It’s interesting, all the best actors, they know how to let go of control. You can’t control so much of it.

Singers don’t get their big break in Hollywood so easily. It’s great to see Harlow recognizing that opportunity and making the most of it. The singer’s next movie is no mean feat as his costars are some of the most talented actors in the industry currently – Damon and Casey Affleck. The movie is expected to do well at the box office, as critics wait to see how Harlow performs in The Instigators.

The 2023 White Men Can’t Jump movie was essentially a remake of the classic eponymous film with Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes. The movie, much like many remakes, failed to impress the masses with its creativity since the original story got lost somewhere in the middle. Nevertheless, the director of the remake, Calmatic, praised Harlow’s first-time acting stint in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter,

No matter what he does, it doesn’t feel fake or forced. I think once he started acting and things got real on that end it was like, yo man, he’s doing his thing, this is special. I was telling him, ‘I think 10 years from now, you’re going to be Jack Harlow the actor who knows how to rap well,’ so hopefully that’s what it is.

The director seems to have a lot of faith in the singer-turned-actor. Only upcoming movies will tell how Harlow does in the future as an actor. There is surely scope for improvement, provided Harlow works on being better.

The Instigators is now streaming on AppleTV+.
