Ironically, actor Anthony Hopkins, who starred in The Father, hasn’t seen his daughter in more than 20 years. The 85-year-old actor revealed in 2018 that he is on bad terms with his only child, Abigail Hopkins. The actor welcomed Abigail with his first wife, Petronella Barker.
Both of them don’t really like to talk about their strained relationship. They grew apart because Hopkins was absent during her teenage years. She also said that she won’t forgive her father for the way he treated Petronella Barker. He left her in London all alone with Abigail and got married to Jennifer Lynton. The actor is now married to Stella Arroyave since 2003.

Not many people know that Anthony Hopkins has only one child, Abigail Hopkins. The actor and his first wife, Petronella Barker, welcomed Abigail in 1968. The actor hasn’t seen his daughter in over 20 years as she hates her father for being absent during her teenage years and mistreating Barker. He talked about his relationship with his daughter in 2018 as he was asked if he has any grandchildren,
“I don’t have an idea. People break up. Families split and, you know, ‘Get on with your life.’ People make choices. I don’t care one way or the other.”
He was also asked about his daughter when he was standing in line for his second COVID shot in Los Angeles. The actor said, “It was a painful time in my life and not something I can talk about.” As per sources, his daughter is not married and has no children.
Anthony Hopkins left Abigail and Petronella Barker in London
The primary reason why Abigail abandoned his father is that he was absent as she grew up. He got married to Petronella Barker in 1966 and two years later they welcomed Abigail. However, their marriage was a nightmare. The actor reportedly spent more time outside and barely made time for his family. His alcohol addiction reportedly got out of hand.
In 1970, he was reportedly so drunk that he missed a flight back to London. Pinewood Studios then sent one of its secretaries, Jennifer Lynton, to pick him up. It was a turning point as Hopkins fell for Lynton and left his wife and toddler in 1972 and got married to Lynton. Abigail once said that she came “very close” to committing suicide and will never forgive him for the way he treated her mother.
