The X-Men: Days of Future Past movie actor Nicholas Hoult has done it all with great ambition and talent. He has been an integral part of many high-end films across genres. This is why he ranks as one of the most in-demand stars in Hollywood today. He has had his hands full with work for a long time owing to his superb talent and admiring personality. Working in show business is difficult since it is one of the most competitive fields. Recently, the Deadpool 2 actor revealed that he lost a captivating role in The Batman film franchise.

In the latest interview with GQ España, the actor stressed losing a role in the titular franchise to Robert Pattinson. Nicholas Hoult said,

“I’m sure if you ask most people, they’ll tell you they’d want to portray that role. I think Matt Reeves’ ideas were fantastic and he made a brilliant movie. And I also think that Rob Pattinson did an amazing job with the character, and I loved seeing him in it. So I don’t think I would have done as good a job as him ultimately. I don’t think I could have fit as well into the world that Matt created as Rob did.”

When asked how he feels about losing such a vital role, the Silent Witness movie actor explained,

“When they tell you for the first time that it’s not you, it’s painful, but then you have to accept it as normality.”

Nicholas Hoult continued,

“I think that’s probably a strength of mine as an actor as well. I can accept that they didn’t cast me pretty well and when I see the chosen actor doing a great job, and I enjoy it, and it’s good, I’m like, oh yeah, they made the right choice. They knew what they were doing. So it’s not like I’m sitting there like, ‘Oh, I’m not going to watch it now.’ It’s a good movie and Rob is brilliant in it.”

In a previous interview, the actor recalls refusing a role in none other than Tom Cruise movie the Mission: Impossible franchise. Hoult said,

“I screen-tested for Batman and didn’t get it. Screen-tested for Top Gun, but didn’t get it. Then I got the call from Tom Cruise: ‘Hey, how about Mission Impossible?’ OK. Got it. Then I had to drop out because I was already attached to doing some more of The Great.”

This was quite a momentous refusal, given the heft the $3.5 Billion franchise carries. On top of that, Nicholas Hoult refused the offer from none other than Tom Cruise, who is perhaps the biggest Hollywood star today. The Clash of the Titans actor apparently had prior commitments on the Hulu series The Great Season 3 to which he remained faithful and turned down this golden opportunity.

Jack the Giant Slayer movie star has appeared in multi-genre films. In a previous tell-all interview, Hoult revealed his wish to make a rom-com movie. Nicholas Hoult told The Guardian,

“I would like to go do a rom-com though maybe not as a romantic lead: it sounds like there’s slightly less to explore with those characters.”

He continued,

“But maybe people just don’t think of me like that, maybe I don’t get sent the good ones. I’d love to pretend it’s all my doing, but it’s more about when things align and when directors cast you.” He makes a face as if to say: “Don’t look at me, I just work here.”

Talking about his journey in Hollywood Hoult said,

“I just find it funny. I was not really ever a star. I’ve never viewed the success I’ve had as being too much; it was never astronomical, your world flipped upside down, and you can’t live a normal life. It was always more like this is good. Maybe you can continue to do this.”

Nicholas Hoult added,

“I’m not building on a body of work because each work is singular. In my mind, I’m building a patchwork quilt, I suppose. Trying to make each square very different. I’m not building one big duvet.”
