After J. Cole apologized and sided with Kendrick Lamar in this ever-evolving battle to be the greatest rapper ever, it was high time for Drake to pick up the mic and sing his reply. The rapper has been embroiled in this battle with Lamar for years now.

From releasing diss tracks to name-dropping each other in interviews, rappers and other music industry celebrities are known for infusing their personal vendettas in their songs. In the name of creative freedom, sometimes these actions go a little too far.

Drake Responds to Kendrick Lamar with Push Ups

Following Kendrick Lamar releasing Like That, Drake had been waiting for a chance to reply and make another move. Over the last week, the rapper released Push Ups, and when he couldn’t wait for his rival to respond, he further posted a song on Instagram that featured vocals from AI versions of Tupac and Snoop Dogg.

Titled Taylor Made Freestyle, we hear Tupac’s AI-manipulated vocals that taunt and provoke Kendrick Lamar to fight and keep the punches coming at the beginning of the song itself. The lyrics read,

“Kendrick, we need ya, the West Coast savior/Engraving your name in some hip-hop history,” the voice raps. “Fuck this Canadian light-skin, Dot/We need a no-debated West Coast victory, man.”

Both Tupac and Snoop Dogg vocals, conjured using AI, are used to goad Lamar into responding and remaining involved in this public feud. Seems like any thinly veiled references just won’t do anymore and the rappers are openly challenging one another to step into the proverbial ring. The beef between Drake and Lamar shows no signs of fading away as the two rappers continue making headlines with their actions.

Using AI Vocals Puts Drake in Hot Waters

In a recent article by Rolling Stone, Drake’s usage of AI vocals is condemned as it sets a terrible precedent for the music industry, Artificial Intelligence is already taking over the world and if the creative industry crumbles under its pressure, then the future of the world appears bleak. However, Drake used Tupac’s AI vocals to address the allegations he faced of inappropriately interacting with teenage girls. The article states,

“It would seem like Drake would want to publicly push back on the notion of improper relationships with girls. But to this point, he hasn’t. That’s why it’s weak for him to use AI Tupac vocals to do so.”

Drake is in hot waters not just because of AI vocals in his song but also because of his lack of addressing the allegations. The move is hailed by the industry in a negative light since Drake’s feud with Lamar is increasing day by day.

Again, in Taylor Made Freestyle, there was no hiding the fact that Drake is talking about the global sensation Taylor Swift. Her newly released double album The Tortured Poets Department is amassing new fans every second and it’s no surprise that some of her songs from the album are trending at number 1. In the song, Drake recognizes the impact of Swift on the industry as he raps,

“But now we gotta wait a fucking week ’cause Taylor Swift is your new Top / And if you ’bout to drop, she gotta approve / This girl really ’bout to make you act like you not in a feud / Yeah, shoutout to Taylor Swift / Biggest gangster in the music game right now / You know, I moved my album when she dropped.”

The last line hints at Drake knowing his song will get overshadowed by Swift’s new album. So, he made the wise decision of postponing the release of his song. Reps from Swift’s team or the singer herself have not responded to this yet. While Drake is waiting for Lamar to respond, it will be a few days before the rapper issues his point of view and comes back to make headlines.
