Orlando Bloom Opens Up About His Friendship With Johnny Depp
The Neverland actor is best known for playing Captain Jack Sparrow in the successful Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. His co-star actor Orlando Blooms admitted in his candid interview that he respects Depp even after Heard’s brutal alleged claims against the Alice in Wonderland star. Blooms had famously played the character of “Straight Guy” in the iconic franchise next to Johnny Depp, and he revealed that though he received criticism for playing the role, he had fun working with Amber Heard’s former husband.
Orlando Blooms opens up about his friendship with his co-star Johnny Depp. The actor told Hollywood Reporter,
“Nobody steps out of the door or onto a set – whoever you are, whether you’re an actor, director or producer – nobody is trying to do bad work. I know when I put my head down at night, I’ve done my best with everything I’ve ever done. I’ve always given it my all, and I think in a way, if anything, there was a lot of safe play in my career.”
He continued,
“I’m not really interested in that anymore, so I can see how… I mean for Will, for example, I was playing the straight guy to Johnny’s remarkable Jack Sparrow, but it’s not easy to pull that straight guy off, do you know what I mean?”
The actor added,
“In a way, it was the emotional thread, that relationship between Elizabeth [Swann, played by Kiera Knightley] and Will, but I don’t look back with anything. I just look forward with excitement, to be honest now.”
In an interview with BBC, the Pirates of the Caribbean star revealed that he feels inspired by Johnny Depp and his acting skills. Orlando Blooms explained,
“It was the most fun I’ve ever had. I got to work with one of my heroes, Johnny Depp, and to see how he goes about business, which was really inspiring for me at this stage in my career. I knew he’d bring something unique to it the way; he always does with his roles. I didn’t know what it would be when I saw it. It was fantastic. For me, as a young actor, to see; somebody like Johnny who creates a character from nothing, it’s great.”
Things got pretty ugly between the former couple, and in May 2016, Johnny Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard filed for divorce. The court proceedings were finalized in 2017 after the Never Back Down actress claimed her ex-husband Johnny Depp verbally and physically abused her during their relationship.
