“James Bond has a license to kill”: Not Henry Cavill, Tom Hanks Wants MCU Star to Play James Bond After Daniel Craig’s Retirement
One of the most popular actors in Hollywood is Tom Hanks. He has been an actor for more than 40 years, and his films have always done very well financially. Hanks has received multiple awards, including two Oscars. His amazing ability to switch between dramatic and comedic roles with ease is one of the many reasons he is so adored by fans. Hanks’s range as an actor knows no limitations, whether he’s playing the charming single parent Sam Baldwin in Sleepless in Seattle or the dedicated FBI agent Carl Hanratty in Catch Me if You Can.
It is well known that Tom Hanks is a versatile actor who can basically play any part. However, the actor was never given the chance to play James Bond. Even though James Bond is a British spy, numerous American actors have been offered the part over the years. Tom Hanks, however, was never given the opportunity. But he has ideas about who should play the spy next, now that Daniel Craig has retired from the role.
After Daniel Craig, Tom Hanks wants MCU star to play James Bond
James Bond is a British fictional character from literature and movies. Bond is a dashing womanizer and a daring spy who is frequently seen taking part in exciting adventures. Numerous actors have portrayed James Bond over the years. The actors have been selected with great care in order for them to successfully portray the MI6 agent 007.
The torch was being carried in recent years by Daniel Craig, a well-known British actor who portrayed James Bond with success and has grown to be one of the most adored actors to play Agent 007. However, the time has come for him to hand the reins over to a different successor since he retired from playing James Bond in the year 2021. But who is going to win the role next? Although we don’t know, it appears that famed actor Tom Hanks has a suggestion on the matter.
In addition to several well-known actors like Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, there is one performer who has been mentioned frequently in connection with James Bond casting rumors. Tom Hanks, recently discussed this topic in an interview with the BBC.
Hanks wants James Bond to be played by MCU actor Idris Elba. During the interview, he practically gave a shout-out to Elba, saying, “James Bond has a license to kill. And if you ask me, I’d gladly give that license to Idris Elba,” considering Elba’s incredible work Hanks has seen over the years.
To hear such kind words from a wonderful and renowned actor like Tom Hanks is indeed an honor. Hanks has also expressed in an interview his desire to portray a James Bond villain.
Tom Hanks as a James Bond villain
Tom Hanks expressed in an interview his desire to portray a James Bond villain even if he was never offered the part to play the hero. He has earned a reputation for portraying characters in moving and realistic ways on the big screen in his successful long career. Hanks, however, purposefully avoided playing dark or wicked characters because he believed he couldn’t do so with adequate authenticity.
Hanks did make a few exceptions to explore the darker side of acting, despite his preference for more morally sound characters. He played morally dark roles in films like Road to Perdition and The Circle, demonstrating his versatility to the audience. On The Graham Norton Show, Hanks stated his desire to portray a villain in a Bond film. However, he also jokingly remarked that some Bond villain cliches sometimes come out very silly. He was referring to the famous line when the antagonist gives James Bond a tour of their lavish base before killing him.
If Tom Hanks is cast as a villainous character in a James Bond film, I have no doubt that he will pull it off just as well.
