James Gunn DCU Upsets Fans Yet Again, This Time With David Corenswet’s Superman Costume
Co-CEO of DC Studios James Gunn has yet another disappointing news for DC fans. As of late, he has been on the receiving end of disappointments as some of DC’s most recent movies, namely, The Flash, Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Blue Beetle have not been doing well at the box office. The reason behind these movies failing could be the announcement of the DC reboot.
In a press conference on January 31, co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran confirmed that the new DC Universe is going to have two “chapters”, the first one being Gods and Monsters. Superman: Legacy which is slated to be released in 2025 is going to be the first movie in this new chapter.
James Gunn Has Bad News for DC Fans
James Gunn is working as both the scriptwriter and the director of Superman: Legacy. The movie is not exactly an origin story as it will see a younger version of the superhero as a reporter who will be interacting with the character of Lois Lane. David Corenswet will be starring as Clark Kent while Rachel Brosnahan will be portraying Lois Lane.
Recently, DC fan asked The Suicide Squad director if he could “post the Superman suit already”. To this question, Gunn coldly replied, “Not even slightly close to doing that.” Now, that is sure some really disappointing news for the fans who have been eagerly waiting to see the new Superman costume.

Taking the Slither director’s word into account, it can be said that it is going to take quite some time for fans to find out whether Corenswet’s Superman will wear trunks or not. While fans being mad about this update is understandable, it has to be noted that the movie will not get released for two more years so it is only fair that the most important things are safeguarded to help its marketing.
James Gunn’s DC Movies Haven’t Been Doing Well Lately
James Gunn was rehired by Disney to direct MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 that did remarkably well with as it earned $845 million worldwide as of August 23, 2023. On the other hand, DC’s movies that are directly under Gunn are performing rather poorly.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods had a production budget of $125 million and managed to gross only $133.8 million at the box office which made it a box-office flop. Given how successful the first Shazam movie was, the studios and development team had hoped that it would do really well but luck didn’t seem to be on their side.
Blue Beetle is a fairly good movie but even that didn’t manage to break through DC’s recent downward trend. Hopefully, the DC reboot will help the DC Studios get out of this commercial slump.
