James Gunn’s Explanation On Leaving Joker Out Of Suicide Squad
James Gunn kicked off his journey with DC by directing the upcoming The Suicide Squad. There are a lot of questions from fans, critics and journalists alike on the path that Gunn wishes to take with the movie. Will the film be a sequel to the previous Suicide Squad film, or will it act as a reboot? Gunn hasn’t yet answered the question, and the only answers that have more or less been given are information regarding the cast.
Details About The Suicide Squad Cast
Viola Davis, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, and Jai Courtney are set to reprise their roles from the previous film. However, the audience can surely expect several new faces in the cast as well. However, one question that lingers on the minds of many is whether Jared Leto will return as the Joker.
Director James Gunn‘s Response To Q&A
An Instagram Q&A on Gunn’s stories brought a lot of questions regarding the upcoming film. One fan even asked about Joker’s involvement in Suicide Squad. Interestingly, Gunn didn’t deny Joker’s absence from the movie. According to Gunn, “No one but me and a few others know all the characters in the movie, but if the Joker isn’t in the film, I don’t think it would be strange as he isn’t a part of the Suicide Squad in the comics.”
Joker’s Relevance To Suicide Squad Plot
The primary reason Joker was added to the previous Suicide Squad film was because of his significant other – Harley Quinn. Quinn herself was a newest addition to the Suicide Squad, being considered as part of the Squad in 2011. Essentially, Joker’s ties to the Suicide Squad franchise seems almost irrelevant as he’s portrayed as a supporting character for Harley Quinn.
The Suicide Squad is set for a August 6, 2021 release.
