James Gunn’s first Superman poster hints at Christopher Reeve’s Superman
Warner Bros. debuted the first poster of the upcoming Superman movie starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and more on Monday. Directed by James Gunn, Superman’s poster also revealed the date of its first trailer with a tease of the movie’s soundtrack.
The poster’s got Corenswet flying straight up into the air, showing off his comic-accurate suit and iconic red lights. James Gunn and the studios also shared a teaser trailer on his social media, confirming that the first trailer for Superman is going to be released on Thursday.
Eagle-eyed fans noticed that the recently released poster gives a nod to Christopher Reeve’s Superman of 1978. Fans pointed out that if heard closely, the motion poster features a slowed-down interpretation of composer John Williams’ famous Superman theme used in the 1978 movie. The poster shared has used the theme music with a quieter, more thoughtful reimagining, and fans love it.
James Gunn had previously clarified that Superman is not going to be an origin story for the character, adding that with their story, they want to take it away from the good guy vs. the bad guy. He noted that they are all good—almost saintly—people and Superman is among them. He further mentioned via Variety,
It has been known that Superman draws its inspiration from writer Grant Morrison and artist Frank Quitely’s 12-part series All-Star Superman.
