While some artists train their children about acting careers and their challenges, Jodie Foster chose not to tell her children about being an actress. The NYAD star revealed that she hid her acting career from her children when they were younger.

The Golden Globe winner didn’t want her children to be confused about her personal and professional life and told them that she worked at a construction site. Jodie Foster was concerned about her children’s perspective on acting and tried hard to hide the reality from them.

Jodie Foster Kept Her Acting Career a Secret From Children

Jodie Foster stepped into the world of entertainment at a young age. From securing roles in drama, and action-comedy to science fiction, Foster has come a long way. Soon after her breakthrough in Taxi Driver, she was blessed with continued success and recognition in the film industry. Not only the Golden Globe award, but she’s also a recipient of two Academy Awards, both under the category of Best Actress in two different films.

However, when the actress started her family and was blessed with two sons, she tried her best to hide the truth about her career. The Hotel Artemis star wasn’t sure how her children would accept her career, and that could have even confused them. So, to prevent her sons from knowing her as a celebrity mom and to live a normal life, Jodie Foster kept her acting career a secret. Recently the actress told The View on Friday:

“I guess I just didn’t want them to know me that way. I wanted them to know me as their mom and the person who went away to work and stuff. I just didn’t want them to be confused about what I did for a living.”

While explaining that she only desired a normal life for her children, the Carnage star also shared that her elder son thought his mother worked at a construction site, as she took him to a set when he was three years old. The actress added:

“I brought him to set one day and I bought him a little plastic tool belt and stuff. And I was like, ‘Yeah, and this is this set and this set and this set.’ And for a really long time, he thought I was a construction worker. He thought I did construction”

However, since her sons are grown-ups now, they are proud of their mother and praise her acting career. Jodie Foster’s latest project was last year’s film NYAD, featuring a sixty-four-year-old marathon swimmer Diana Nyad played by Foster, who’s highly determined to become the first human ever to swim from Cuba to Florida.

The Oscar-winning actress also mentioned that her kids never show interest in watching her movies together. However, they are intrigued by True Detective and might start to watch the show soon. The Inside Man star added:

“They have no interest in watching my movies with me. I think they’re going to catch True Detective, cause they’re really into that. And yeah, there’s a few films that I would never show them because I would be worried about being teased.”

Jodie Foster also mentioned that she wouldn’t want her children to watch some of her movies like Nell, as they might tease her. The actress shares her two sons with former partner Cydney Bernard, from whom she split in 2008. Since then she has been with Alexandra Hedison whom she married in 2014.

NYAD is streaming on Netflix.
