Johnny Depp Is Soon Going To Receive The Donostia Award And Here Is Everything That You Need To Know
Johnny Depp is soon going to receive the Donostia Award. The award is perhaps the highest accolade of the San Sebastian Film Festival.
The organizers of the festival described Johnny Depp as “one of contemporary cinema’s most talented and versatile actors.” The ceremony is going to take place in the Kursaal Auditorium between 17 and 25th of September this year.
Johnny Depp was even there at the European festival to present Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds with Share McGowan last year. Apart from that, he also appeared alongside Terry Gilliam at the Spanish fest in 1998.
Sigourney Weaver, Viggo Mortensen, Ethan Hawke, Judy Dench, and Penelope Cruz are some of the recipients who’ll be included at the Donostia Award.
Johnny Depp’s award will surely raise some eyebrows, as far as the ongoing legal issues with the Pirates of the Caribbean star are concerned. But San Sebastian is fearless enough to zig when others zag. Even in 2020, the event started with Woody Allen-directed film, Rifkin’s Festival.
Depp is best known for movies such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Pirates franchise, and Edward Scissorhands. He had recently played the role of a war photographer, W. Eugene Smith, in Minamata.
However, the director of the film got at odds with the MGM studios due to its muted release. Keeping this in a loop, the makers claimed that Johnny Depp’s personal issues prompted the studio to mute the film and get it stopped. Depp was even involved in a very recent court case that included his wife Amber Heard as well. He lost the case and as a result, Depp was asked by Warner Bros to resign from the Fantastic Beasts franchise.
Today, Johnny Depp is engaged in a lawsuit of $50 million defamation against Heard in the United States.
