Johnny Depp has won the defamation trial last year against Amber Heard with the help of his lawyer, Camille Vasquez who stayed with him till the end. The infamous trial made her a celebrity especially in the eyes of the former’s fans as she frequently sparred with the latter in the cross-questioning during the trial.
The media sensation landed a lucrative deal with NBC news as she joined NBC News as a news analyst. Though many are happy with her latest feat, her new gig is not taken lightly by a few staffers at the network.
The New Gig of Camille Vasquez is Annoying NBC Staffers
The media personality, Camille Vasquez made several staff at the NBC News network annoyed ever since she was hired by the network as a news analyst. According to reports by Semafor, the network’s own staff is now complaining to them about their new hiring.
The 38-year-old lawyer appeared on NBC’s Today show alongside host Hoda Kotb who introduced her officially. Since her first appearance on the show, she is being the subject of attention with a journalist filing a written complaint to management. The complaint raised concerns “about the decision to hire her as an analyst, which was widely circulated inside the newsroom,” as per two NBC News employees.
According to the reports, some of the employees think that her hiring decision has somehow “discounted NBC’s own reporting.”
The network’s coverage regarding the publicized defamation trial included the documentary that detailed its possibility of negatively affecting domestic abuse.
“For her to end up in this branding, as an NBC News Analyst — it puts her in league with the journalists of this network, and that’s unfortunate,” a staff commented.
Even many staff members as per the outlet remained “sympathetic to Heard’s view” of the case which might not be beneficial for the lawyer.
A Brief Note on Johnny Depp-Amber Heard Defamation Trial
The former pair were involved in a legal lawsuit in early 2022 which was filed by Johnny Depp in 2019 demanding $50 million from his ex-wife as damages for ruining his reputation.
In 2018, Heard wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post claiming herself to be a “domestic abuse” victim. Even though there was no mention of the Charlie and The Chocolate Factory actor in the article, he faced severe consequences with a brief public backlash.
The defamation trial was a big win for him with the court awarding him $10.35m in damages. The actress was initially unhappy with the verdict and chose to appeal it. Though, she, later on, settled with him with her insurance company agreeing to pay Depp $1 million.
