Jurassic World 4: Godzilla Director Gareth Edwards Comes to the Rescue
Dinosaurs used to roam the planet freely way back in the past, but their terror and destructive power still echoes. How? Through the magnificent Jurassic Park movies. After the initial trilogy ended in 2001, the world of dinosaurs was rebooted in 2015 with Jurassic World films that saw Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in the lead. The next chapter in the blockbuster franchise is eyeing a 2025 release timeline.
Who is Directing Jurassic World 4?
Previously, it was announced that Deadpool 2, John Wick, and Bullet Train fame David Leitch will be at the wheel of the fourth part of the Jurassic World franchise. However, negotiations seem to have fallen through and the producers were on the lookout for another director to chart the future course for the mighty franchise.
Variety reports that Rogue One fame director Gareth Edwards might come to the rescue to direct Jurassic World 4. The Universal movie is written by the original Jurassic Park writers David Koepp and Michael Crichton. Seems like Jurassic World 4 will not be Edwards’s first rodeo in the rogue creature world since he directed Godzilla in 2014 which grossed $529 million worldwide. His most recent project The Creature, which he has written and directed, was nominated for two Academy Awards namely Best Visual Effects and Best Sound.
The movie is untitled but expected to hit the theatres in July next year. The cast and plot of the movie have not been revealed yet. At the same time, the movie is expected to serve as a soft reboot without continuing the previous movies’ stories. The past Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies might be mentioned or linked somehow, but the details have not been disclosed yet. The popularity of the franchise continues to soar through the ceiling, so fans cannot wait to see the next movie on the big screen.
What is the Timeline of Jurassic World Movies?
The first Jurassic Park came in 1993, directed and written by Steven Spielberg along with Michael Crichton and David Koepp contributing to the screenplay. The second and third movies The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III released in 1997 and 2001 respectively. These movies featured Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum in central roles. The three actors continued to appear in the Jurassic World trilogy as well.
The next set of movies started hitting the theatres in 2015 titled Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Jurassic World Dominion. Given the way they are released in trilogy sets, the upcoming untitled movie might be the start of another trilogy, focusing on a different aspect of the dinosaur world. The movies are set in chronological order and begin with cloned dinosaurs from a theme park set loose. The last movie, directed by Colin Trevorrow, witnessed dinosaurs on their way to becoming apex predators, threatening the status of humans on Earth.
