Jurassic World Dominion: Initial Reactions Reveal Dinosaurs and Disappointment
Jurassic World Dominion is finally on its way and now, the first reactions to the film are in and critics seem quite mixed on the most recent installment in the dinosaur franchise.
Before the movie’s worldwide release, reviewers shared their thoughts on the film over social media, as Dominion will finally mark the conclusion of the classic Jurassic World trilogy.
Jurassic World Dominion Gets A Disappointing Reception
While some critics praised the high-concept action and intriguing dinosaur moments, the overall movie looks like a disappointing conclusion. Entertainment’s Scott Menzel stated that Dominion doesn’t seem to capitalize on the success of the initial two movies, giving “bad plotting, writing and acting.” Menzel also criticized the performance of the cast, even stating that Campbell Scott “is gearing up for a Razzie.”
Variety’s Courtney Howard has also echoed the same sentiments, stating that Dominion is a hard attempt to stitch two “entirely different, uninteresting & hollow stories” together, calling Dominion the worst film in the entire Jurassic franchise.
Here are some tweets for Jurassic World Dominion:
#JurassicWorldDominion = BAD. It ignores the premise it should’ve had from the start, instead synthetically engineering 2 entirely different, uninteresting & hollow stories that it struggles to connect. Some effects look polished, some ropey. Worst of the franchise. pic.twitter.com/0xbyUR6O9d

It delivers the spectacle you expect, but #JurassicWorldDominion feels underwhelming for a finale as it treads familiar ground. Lovely to see the OG trio though and their strand is the strongest, even if it unwittingly highlights how bland the JW characters are by comparison. pic.twitter.com/IT2yXfhMFY

It brings me no joy to report that #JurassicWorldDominion is a MASSIVE disappointment. While the film does feature some incredible dinosaur sequences and it is great to see the original cast back on the big screen, the film fails to deliver on what the previous films promise. pic.twitter.com/AsGoqMsrSf

GOOD NEWS: #JurassicWorldDominion is my favorite film of the new Jurassic trilogy. It’s stuffed w/ thrilling dinosaur encounters & lots more Jeff Goldblum, but it’s also got a great balance of creepy & inventive scenarios w/ some choice nods to what came before. A solid finale. pic.twitter.com/G6bMCDUecL

Some Critics Loved The Film
However, Fandango’s Erik Davis called Dominion his favorite of the trilogy so far, praising the “great balance of creepy & inventive scenarios” it offers. Digital Spy’s Ian Sandwell called out the much-anticipated return of Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill as much of a highlight but stated that Dominion felt “underwhelming for a finale as it treads familiar ground.”
Dominion is set about four years after Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the most recent entry in a franchise that features a world overrun by dinosaurs. The movie explores the highly fragile balance of nature, questioning whether humans are on top of the food chain while coexisting with history’s most vile predators. Many familiar faces return for Dominion, including Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady, Claire Dearing (played by Bryce Dallas Howard), and the original protagonists – Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), Dr. Ellie Sattler (Dern), and Dr. Alan Grant (Neill).
Dominion Will Be The Final Film Of The Franchise
Earlier, Chris Pratt had confirmed that the most recent movie caps off the whole Jurassic Saga, stating that the movie will be the end of the franchise.
“You know when you go to a fireworks display like the Fourth of July or New Year, there’s always the finale?” Pratt said. “You’re waiting for it, and then boom! And you’re like, ‘Oh! This is it! This is the finale!’ I feel like the whole movie is that. It’s…30 years in the making, it’s the sixth Jurassic film, it’s the end of this franchise.”
Jurassic World Dominion will debut in theaters on June 9, 2022.
