The issues between Baldoni and Lively became obvious to the world when the latter began appearing on the red carpet with her other co-stars or husband for the premiere of her It Ends with Us. Considering Baldoni is one of the lead actors, it was expected that he and Lively would show up together or even promote it together in interviews. Instead, what happened was the exact opposite as they both kept their distance from each other.

It Ends with Us, based on Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel, follows the story of a florist named Lily Bloom (Blake Lively) whose relationship with her husband, neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni) is in trouble as he abuses her. Things get even more complicated when her ex-boyfriend Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar) shows up in her life once again.

Ironically, a movie that is about troubled relationships and domestic abuse resulted in a constrained relationship between the lead stars of the movie, Lively and Baldoni. It had escalated to the point that the rest of the cast had no choice other than to take sides (mostly Lively’s) during the promotional tour. What followed next was an entire controversy against Lively, which shed negative light on her.

Last month, the Gossip Girl star filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, in which she made some very serious allegations. According to In Touch, the Five Feet Apart director recently accused Lively of “manipulative behavior” for her alleged efforts to take over the wardrobe. He claimed:

[She] began to assert control over aspects of the film beyond her role as an actor and outside the scope of her contractual entitlements.

He further claimed that lead actors are generally not allowed to have full control over the wardrobe without the approval of the director and producers.

Nevertheless, [Blake] overstepped these boundaries, sidelining the production’s costume designer — a seasoned professional with a longstanding working relationship with [Blake].

In his filing, he claimed that despite being an executive director, he “paid no mind to the budget and the months of planning that had already occurred” for her on-screen character’s wardrobe.

Justin Baldoni has claimed that the conversation between him and Blake Lively was “grossly misrepresented”

According to the outlet, Lively was photographed in character in the outfit she had chosen for herself, which led to criticism against Baldoni from Sony. The studio expressed concerns that the pictures would affect people’s perception of the film.

Baldoni allegedly talked to Lively about wardrobe adjustments in her trailer, which was “grossly misrepresented.” His lawyer insisted that Lively’s account in her lawsuit was false.

This conversation, while professional, took considerable time and was later grossly misrepresented in [Blake’s lawsuit], falsely characterizing the exchange as a ‘lengthy outburst’ that delayed filming and caused the crew to ‘wait for hours while [Justin] cried in [Blake’s] dressing room.

The lawyer clarified that Baldoni “teared up briefly” because Lively gave him a compliment for his work as a director and actor. Later, he felt that it was a manipulation tactic to let her have control over the wardrobe.
