Justin Lin Gave a Crew Member 1 Scene in Vin Diesel’s $7.3B Franchise For Going To Jail After Taking a Fall For the Director
Justin Lin is a Taiwanese-American director famous for his Fast and Furious franchise. As of March 2017, his films had grossed over $3 billion USD worldwide. His most well-known works are Better Luck Tomorrow (2002), the Fast & Furious franchise from The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) to Fast & Furious 6 (2013) and F9 (2021), and Star Trek Beyond (2016). He has also dabbled in television and gathered immense success on shows like Community and True Detective.
Recently, Justin Lin appeared in a podcast where he revealed that he gave a crew member a scene in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift just for going to jail for the director.
Justin Lin had a crew member go to jail for him while shooting Tokyo Drift
Recently, the topic of discussion at the popular Happy, Sad, and Confused podcast was the famous The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift with none other than Justin Lin, the man behind many of the Fast and Furious movies. While talking to host Josh Horowitz, he opened up about his shooting experience in Shibuya City of Tokyo, Japan. He explained how in Shibuya City they do not give permits and people in the middle of the shot can walk right in. It becomes a matter of respecting the citizens of the community. He then proceeded to say something that even took the host by surprise.

“I remember shooting this and people would just walk in front of the camera.The big Shibuya shots were interesting too because they have…You will see the police officer and you just kinda sit there. You just wait and they are like you get 20 minutes, and I am just trying to shoot everything. At 20 minutes they come up and they are like who is the director? Then someone steps in front of me and says ‘I am the director.’ They get arrested and they go to jail for me.”

He then said that he put him in the movie because he went to jail for him. He appears in the scene of the bathhouse, where he is the attendant.
Channing Tatum almost made it as the Fast and Furious lead, despite claiming it to be the worst audition of his life
In the same podcast, the topic of Channing Tatum claiming Tokyo Drift was the worst audition of his life came up. The host, Josh Horowitz, asked Justin Lin if there was any truth to the statement. Almost immediately, Justin Lin was taken aback and said he was “awesome” in his audition.
“I remember he came in and he was amazing. I like to kind of play around and give a bit of adjustment but he had a great audition.”

According to him, Tatum even made the top 3 of the director’s choices for the unknown role.
