Leslie Jones Blamed Ivan Reitman’s Son For Making Things Difficult For Her
Leslie Jones has blamed Jason Reitman for making things worse for her after she received immense racist and hurtful attacks from people after playing a subway cleaner in the Ghostbusters reboot movie. The National Security star opened up about this in her memoir Leslie F*cking Jones. The reboot of Paul Feig‘s Ghostbusters: Afterlife didn’t float Leslie Jones‘s boat as it was a hurtful experience for the actress to receive brutal racism and death threats. According to Rolling Stone Jones wrote:
“The damage was done, bringing up the idea of giving the movie ‘back to the fans’ was a pretty clear shout-out to all those losers who went after us for making an all-female film.”
Leslie Jones wrote about Jason Reitman’s comments in a podcast about making a new Ghostbusters movie in 2021 which was supposed to be better than the 2016 movie. Ivan Reitman’s Son expressed his will to make another movie which was trying to get back to the style of the original Ghostbusters movie. Jones took it as an insult to the 2016 movie and believed that Jason Reitman’s words were a clear shout-out to the bullies who criticized the reboot for having an all-female cast. Leslie Jones even called Reitman’s comment “unforgivable” as it did great damage to her amid the backlash she was dealing with.
Leslie Jones Received Videos of Her Being Killed
The Lottery Ticket star revealed almost everything in her biography about the racist and misogynistic trolls that turned into deadly threats. Jones had to delete her X (earlier Twitter) account for 24 hours as there were numerous attacks done to hack her account. The backlash was so severe that the actress had to personally message the CEO of X to protect her account. She wrote:
“I was being sent films of being hanged, of white guys jacking off on my picture, saying, ‘You fuc*ing n—–. We going to kill you”.
The attacks were so severe that Leslie Jones was sent videos of her being hanged and brutally killed by people. In the Ghostbusters reboot, Jones played subway worker Patty Tolan, unlike the other three actresses in the movie who were cast as scientists. The Trainwreck star also revealed that her pay was comparatively less than her co-stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and Kate McKinnon even though her character in the movie is smart and intelligent with a unique perspective to see things and help her team members resist the supernatural happening in New York City.
