“Oh, I could’ve been you”: Daniel Radcliffe’s Harry Potter Co-Star Lamented Turning Down Major Role in $553M Bruce Willis Movie to Honor His Own Belief
Actors when turning down great roles often regret it and they are not afraid to accept that. Actor Jason Isaacs turned down a big role in Bruce Willis’ movie Armageddon which was a box-office hit.
Jason Isaacs is best known for playing the role of Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter movie, and played Dr. Ronald Quincy of NASA research in Bruce Willis’ movie Armageddon, which was a successful film of that time. But the actor could have played a bigger role in it if he hadn’t refused to play it.
Harry Potter Star Jason Isaacs Regretted Passing on a Big Role in $553 Million Movie
Daniel Radcliffe‘s Harry Potter co-star Jason Isaacs expressed sadness over turning down a major role in Armageddon. Even though the actor did play a side role in the movie, he was initially offered a bigger role. The movie focuses on a group of blue-collar deep-core drillers sent by NASA to stop a gigantic asteroid on a collision course with Earth and Isaacs played a doctor in this project. In 2019 the Peter Pan star talked about how he was offered the role and due to his schedule, Isaacs was given a smaller role. The actor told The A.V. Club:
“They came back and offered me the … consultation prize of playing the part I played in ‘Armageddon’ … The whole time, I was looking at the astronauts thinking, ‘Oh, I could’ve been you. It could’ve been me in that orange jumpsuit.'” Apparently being “pretty much the smartest man on the planet” doesn’t matter nearly as much on film sets as top billing. “There’s tiers of hierarchy on film sets … and any time someone was a bit iffy with me, I wanted to go, ‘I could’ve had your f****** job”.
Jason Isaacs lamented turning down the role of an astronaut and ended up playing the smaller role of Dr. Ronald Quincy. The actor watched the astronauts and thought what could have been if he played one of them. But The Patriot star had commitments with another movie that did not allow Jason Isaacs to do the bigger role.
Jason Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter Series
Jason Isaacs played the role of the death eater Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter films for almost a decade. The actor has done some notable TV series like Awake and Case Histories. But it was his role in Harry Potter that gave him recognition. Isaacs has more than 150 credits to his name including Bruce Willis’ Armageddon. Isaacs in Harry Potter played Lucius Malfoy who is a loyal follower of the Dark Wizard Lord Voldemort.
The Fury star is not limited to acting as he is renowned for voice acting in various animated movies and video games. Isaacs landed on many different genre movies post Harry Potter and some of the notable films are The Death of Stalin and A Cure of Wellness. He also worked in the Netflix series The OA and has done more Television shows from which he earned a name. Jason Isaacs has now made himself a respected personality in the industry post-Harry Potter movies.
