Lily-Rose Depp Does Not Agree With fans Calling ‘The Idol’ “Torture P*rn” For Disturbing S*xual Scenes
Lily-Rose Depp is an actor and model and also the daughter of the legend Johnny Depp. She is also a Chanel ambassador. The actress is now starring in the HBO series The Idol which has garnered the title of a darker and more disturbing version of Euphoria. A recent Rolling Stone article criticized the series brutally and claimed it has gone “off the rails”. It started facing backlash after Sam Levinson joined the project.
In a recent interview with The Post, the actress defended the director’s vision and shared her take on the situation.
Lily-Rose Depp defends Sam Levinson
After Sam Levinson joined HBO’s The Idol, it reportedly took a weird turn into “torture p*rn”. A source claimed to Rolling Stone,
“It was like any r*pe fantasy that any toxic man would have in the show — and then the woman comes back for more because it makes her music better,”
Lily-Rose Depp took Levinson’s side and said to The Post,
“Sam is, for so many reasons, the best director I have ever worked with,”
She further added,
“Never have I felt more supported or respected in a creative space, my input and opinions more valued. Working with Sam is a true collaboration in every way — it matters to him, more than anything, not only what his actors think about the work, but how we feel performing it,”
Depp believes she got hired because Levinson believes she fits his visions and trusts she can carry out the job successfully. She said,
“He hires people whose work he esteems and has always created an environment in which I felt seen, heard and appreciated.”
Her response to the situation momentarily shifted the focus from the gore and successfully created more hype for the show, which in turn will bring more eyes to watch it. Her co-star The Weeknd also fired back at the situation through an Instagram post.
The Idol is the new Euphoria?
The HBO series follows Lily-Rose Depp’s character Jocelyn, a rock star who secretly starts a cult with a nightclub owner played by The Weeknd. The disturbing s*x scenes between the two are what raised several questions among its audience. In one instance, the director Sam Levinson allegedly hatched the idea of Depp’s character having to place an egg in her v*gina, if she failed to do so, the pop star Weeknd’s character Tedros will refuse to r*pe her. Which in turn violates their agreement of helping her in her career. A source claimed to Rolling Stone,
“It was like, ‘What is this? What am I reading here?’ –It was like sexual torture p*rn.”
This twisted example forced people to call the show a more disturbing version of HBO’s teen drama Euphoria directed by Levinson.
HBO also spoke about the controversy, stating,
“The creators and producers of The Idol have been working hard to create one of HBO’s most exciting and provocative original programs,–The initial approach on the show and production of the early episodes, unfortunately, did not meet HBO standards so we chose to make a change. Throughout the process, the creative team has been committed to creating a safe, collaborative and mutually respectful working environment, and last year, the team made creative changes they felt were in the best interest of both the production and the cast and crew. We look forward to sharing The Idol with audiences soon”
The release date of the series is yet to be confirmed, but it is certain that the show will come out sometime in 2023.
