Loki Writer Confirms That Doctor Strange 2 & Spider-Man: No Way Home Are Going To Change The MCU
It’s only a matter of time before we find out about the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse. In fact, now that Loki’s first episode introduced Time Variance Authority and even the multiple timelines of the Marvel Studios franchise, it’s safe to say that it already exists. After Loki ends next month, the idea of a multiverse will be revived this December when Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters and continues next March in Doctor Strange in The Multiverse Of Madness. According to Loki screenwriter Michael Waldron, both the movie are gonna have long-term implications for the future of the MCU.
“Geez,” the writer of Loki told Collider when asked about the importance of features. “You’re right. I don’t think you’re going to get Sam Raimi to make a movie unless it turns out to be big.”
Waldron answered a question suggesting Doctor Strange 2 and Spider-Man 3 “had a dramatic impact on the MCU.” Coincidentally, the series Loki wrote the script for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. “Well, I think one of the joys of being a writer in the Marvel universe is making a big mistake and leaving it up to your predecessors. Even though you sometimes find yourself in the forefront,” Waldron said elsewhere in the same discussion. “For example, you write the Loki show, and you end up writing Dr. Strange 2, and you have to clean up your own mess, and that can be a lot of fun.” “Of course, it is important to define the rules, background, history of this organization as best as possible to tell the story.
But in the end, everything that appears on camera is canon,” he added. “So everything between these lines is open to interpretation, change, and everything. It’s like someone wanted to make a story with TVA before, we can definitely have a conversation, and I can tell them, ‘Hey, I might think that,’ but it’s their thing now, and they have to do it their own way.” Loki’s first episode is already airing on Disney+, while Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is due out on 25 March 2022.
