Major DCU Star Who Stole the Show in ‘Blue Beetle’ Nearly Didn’t Get the Role Because of His Weight
Ever since the release of the Blue Beetle fans have not stopped talking about the character of Uncle Rudy. Uncle Rudy played by George Lopez has emerged to be one of the most loved characters from the Blue Beetle film. Even though George Lopez did an excellent job with the role he was never meant to be playing it and almost didn’t get the role due to his weight.
George Lopez Almost Lost His Role In Blue Beetle Due To This Weight
The fan-favorite actor George Lopez almost lost his role in Blue Beetle all due to his weight. George Lopez played the role of Uncle Rudy in the recent release starring Xolo Maridueña. Even though fans loved Lopez and his performance as Uncle Rudy reports has been around, he was never supposed to be playing it as the creators had a different image of the character in mind.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Blue Beetle’s concept artist Phil Boutte revealed that George Lopez was not someone that the creative team anticipated to play Rudy Reyes aka Uncle Rudy. He also stated the casting of George Lopez for this role was a total surprise. Talking about this further Boutte stated that the team was initially looking for someone skinner and wiry. Although Lopez came, in and fitted into the character more hilariously.
“Actually, one of the things that was a surprise for us was George Lopez. Lopez, they had him in mind, but it wasn’t initially him. It was going to be somebody that was skinnier and wiry. His look, the mullet, and all that? Just imagine an aged Mexican rocker. And then George came in, and then Mayes was doing the fittings with him and everything and going back and forth and they were finding his character. Those elements strangely still worked and it was just hilarious.”
Even though he was never supposed to be Uncle Rudy, George Lopez indeed turned out to be one of the most loved characters of Blue Beetle.
George Lopez’s Role in Blue Beetle
Comedian and actor George Lopez played the role of Rudy Reyes aka Uncle Rudy in the Blue Beetle movie. The character of Uncle Rudy is all about an unpredictable tech genius who has a lot of trouble with conspiracy theories. But with his unique comic time and ability, George Lopez made this character more appealing to the people.
Not only this throughout the movie Lopez also helps Jamie with his makeshift tech and his knowledge about Ted Kord’s gadgets. Along with all of this, the amazing, smart, and quippy one-liners delivered by Lopez have only made his character more appealing to the fans.
